Shut when we looked round but aside from the fort compound there is a through the woods to the coast and information panels about how the site was used in WWII so still worth a visit. I loved this place when it was open its just a pity it still isn't open. 😕 For those into history, military things and radios is good for a look, but it would be a relatively short visit as it is a small place, but we'll looked after and still working, the amount of military radios collected by the enthusiasts is quite phenomenal, plus they can tell you about each one. No access Took grandkids and they loved it playing dress up in army uniforms and seeing the big guns and great views over Belfast lough and all for free there is also plenty of free parking It was shut. Dorazili jsme tam zrovna, kdyz meli zavreno, ale prosli jsem se okolo, kde je nekolik informacnich panelu o pevnosti - k cemu a kdy se vyzivala, kdo zde slouzil. Velmi zajimave. If you like forts, the colour grey and pointing at things, this might just be your idea of heaven. The fort itself is a bit underwhelming. Like a lot of Northern Ireland, the phrase, it's good but could be better applies. However, if you stumble across the fort as part of a along the shore, it's a different matter. The views up and down and across Belfast Lough are stunning. Check it out. Only open on Saturday and Sunday now but worth a visit, there's nowhere else like it in the UK. A real slice of history. Nice place. You can park and then to the beach (Helen's Bay). Fantastic county down gem. This place defended Belfast during WWII and has been lovingly restored by volunteers who are only to happy to show you round and tell you more. Worth a visit for old and young alike It's a great shame, this is down as the best preserved, but I'm afraid it's now being let go. It was closed when we got there and was staying in the area so called back the next day. There was someone there who kindly gave us a quick round. He explained there were no plans to do any renovation, which was a great shame. You can still round the perimeter outside the fence and can partially see the guns. It could be very good situated as it is overlooking the entrance to Belfast Lough. Only open Saturday to Monday during summer Interesting place to have a wander around.
