As I absolutely love exploring old monastic ruins, we popped into this site whilst in the area to visit Mount Stewart. This is a Cistercian site and there are plenty of information boards dotted around, providing further details of that part of the site. The West Door is of particular interest as, according to the panel, it's one of the most decorated in Ireland. The site is free to visit and there is a free car park available too. It is a well preserved place with lots of information panels. The rainy weather did not detract from visiting Absolutely beautiful and the volunteers are so friendly and knowledgeable. Incredible site. Unfortunately the grounds were closed during my visit due to high winds. I will have to return for a closer view! This is a gorgeous monastery along the coast of Strangford Lough. Book in for the tour that covers the monastery and the psychic (herb garden); really interesting and informative.
