This was built by the ancient Romans, at the beginning of the first century BC, during the empire of Octavian Augustus. It was crossed by the Roman legions, who went first to conquer and then to guard the valley, with respect to possible invasions. It is still perfectly intact, and even during the Second World War it was spared from the bombs (which however fell very close to it). The visit of this ancient structure is quick, yet it is fascinating, both to tread the ancient stones of the bridge, and to look from below as it rises above the stream. Beautiful roman constructed some 2100 years ago across the Lys river, just downstream of a hydro-electric power plant. On the buildings east and west of the there are giant photographs showing the destruction of the city caused by the heavy bombings end of August 1944. Miraculously the was not damaged showing signs of eternal resilience... As every other reviewer has said this is a remarkable and beautiful Roman bridge. The fact that it has stood here for over 2000 years (and been used continuously for most of that time) is quite astounding. If you're in the area then do yourself a favour and pull into the adjacent car park. Here you can admire the structure and fill your water bottle with fresh water gushing from the nearby spring. Beautiful place that we stayed. View excellent. Both hostesses were wonderful. Food was very good. A magnificent structure that has truly stood the test of time! It's incredible to think that this ancient bridge, built centuries ago, has not only endured the elements but also survived two world wars. A remarkable testament to Roman engineering and history—definitely worth a visit! Nice little bistro with view of the ancient roman bridge. We had only coffee, staff was very friendly and nice. Prices pretty decent and quality real good. Recommended ! A small town with limited services but with a great nature and history. The is more than 2000 years old! Cars still driving on the Very beautiful place, small quiet town, very nice visit Website change monitoring Monitor any webpage for changes – get instant email alerts when prices drop, new jobs are posted, products come back in stock, or competitors update their sites.
