Șoimoș Fortress

Lipova, Romania Castle

Top-rated.online cuts through the clutter, highlighting only the reviews that are most helpful, earn the most likes, or come from the most active contributors. The access is a bit difficult, perhaps better to go up the rocks and follow the trail on the way up and the come down on the path. The citadel is ruined, with some walls, windows and a tower holding on. Vegetation overruns it and people throw their thrash, so uneducated. A panel gives some interesting info. Ruins of a 13th century Hungarian Fortress, offering panoramic views of the Mures River and the surrounding area. A steep up a hill. You can park at the Market by the bridge, and grab water and picnic supplies. Nice fortress situated above the town of Lipova. It is an easy 20 minute walk up the hill, although I wouldn't recomend recommend trying to get to it when it's not dry. The ruins are quite nice, but the views over the Mures valley are amazing. Been there on a really hot day. But is something worth visiting. Try to relive or see the fortress in your mind like it was 850 years ago. Think about how it was built. People living there. Fighting or just watching the fields around...feel the history Visited the castle ruins, when it was raining. Its true, it gets really slippery, but its duable. Just focus on the ground while hiking up the hill. Also theres no safenets or anything, so have to be extra careful. Car parking is right under the hill. Use boots while going up. A recommendation for all lovers of old castle ruins! After a rather steep climb over unpaved paths, a breathtaking view of the ruins and then down into the valley to Lipova awaits you! Easy to a great place. It seems completely deserted but still in a good shape. An easy short from the road to the top. Nice ruin with a beautiful view over the valley. Good spot for photography. Kudos for the beauty of scenery and the ruins. But then state of neglect (one can call "wilderness") is depressing. While the trail from the main road to the fortress is self evident, there are hardly any informative posts or historical context. Absolutely no safety warnings: you misstep, you get hurt. Or worse. Amazing day trip, though! Parkolni nem lehet Foarte frumos, nu-i foarte dificil traseul, e un traseu ușor spre mediu Very short hike, around 600 meters long- there are 2 paths to reach the fortress one very steep and a more approachable one; from the fortress there is a path that takes you to the ‘balconies’ so rock formations with nice view; till this point it will be 2,5km A nice place for a short trip, even a possible route for a 16km hike. There is a place where you can leave your car. But lots of trash left behind from people. Get some shoes, might need them.
