I had an during my depth here with Nejc, Nikos and all the crew! The was very well organised, and safety was always the top priority. Highly recommend this place to anyone interested in freediving, either professionaly or recreationaly! I’m sitting here in the bus to Athen, trying to figure out how to put all of this into words. There are so many positive things to say that it’s challenging to pick just one without mentioning all the others. This is my second year at this place, and it’s only now that I’m finally writing this review. Kalamata Freedivers is undoubtedly one of the world’s top centers. Why? First and foremost, Nejc and Nikos, the owners. The stress-free and heartwarming relationships they build with every single freediver are remarkable. They go above and beyond to help with your needs, but also with anything else you might need outside the water! They are super friendly, polite, and patient. Second, the facilities. Spacious, clean, and always accessible. Outdoor showers, indoor and outdoor chill-out areas you can use anytime. Plenty of space to dry and store your gear between sessions. There’s even an ice bath for those committed to a healthy lifestyle. Forgot something? You can rent gear or buy new equipment on-site. They offer Cetma Official fins, monofins, Kalamata Freedivers and Cetma merch, and Meister equipment. Even if you're not diving, you can stop by for coffee, a slice of someone’s PB cake, or just a casual chat. Third, the weather. Probably one of the most iconic aspects of Kalamata Freedivers. Morning sessions in mirror-like blue waters, with no wind or current most of the time, and visibility over 30 meters! The water and air temperatures are typically above 25°C for most of the year, and even warmer during the season. Fourth, the setup. This place can easily accommodate 40+ divers a day while maintaining proper safety and plenty of space for relaxed dives. Buoys up to 50m and a mainline for dives deeper than 120m. The setup includes a thick line, plenty of bottom weights for the best FIM dives, a counterweight system, deco line, deep scooter safety, all necessary medical equipment, and evacuation plans. Three boats ensure smooth and short transfers between the center and the site. Next, the people. The team takes care of everyone. Whether you want to chat, get tips on your equalization, or just have a time, the Kalamata Freedivers family has got you covered. The friendships you build here will last forever – you’ll be in tears when it’s time to leave! And beyond all that, Kalamata itself offers a beautiful city, delicious food, beaches, bars, and coffee shops. You really have to it yourself to understand what makes this place so special! See you out there sometime in the future! BR! @yourfreedivebuddy Very professional but also very beginner friendly shop. Me and my dad did our SSI freediver 1 here. The entire school is very welcoming, it’s basically a community which you are instantly a part of. A special thanks to our instructor Yonathan, for making such big efforts to make our trip and course as pleasant as possible. He really went the extra mile to make sure we both got our certification. The course is supposed to be 3 days, but at kalamata freedivers they give you one extra day of open water which takes the pressure of off it. I got seasick the third open water session, that’s why I didn’t manage to get my certification in the regular duration of the course. We had a few extra days left on our trip so we decided to sign up for a regular training. We communicated our to Yonathan and he made sure he got on the same boat as us, laid out our gear we used in the course and give us some tips to prepare. On this last day I managed to get certified 💪. Anyways, if you are hesitant about choosing a school four your course or training, you cannot go wrong with kalamata freedivers. I really would recommend anyone to go freediving, even if it’s just once, and Kalamata freedivers is definitely a place to start! - Aaron (NED) This was my second visit to Kalamata Freedivers in the last 4 months. This time to start and complete AIDA 2. The waters might be a little colder in December but the centre is well equipped with 5mm wetsuits and socks. Temperature was not an issue. Even after some rain, the visibility was very and we were treated to some extremely still and sunny mornings in the bay. They were very accommodating to my needs/dates. Equipment was in very condition. The knowledge and by Nejc and Nikos is extremely good. They are very supportive and were happy to give advice and that was not included in the course content. I felt well guided and very safe under their supervision I leave Kalamata very happy and plan to return for AIDA 3 in the near future. Edit Apr 24. I have been and completed my Aida 3 and thoroughly enjoyed it. ❤️ If you are looking for a divecenter to start your career, or improve your skills with support of outstanding instructors and coaches you are at the right place. On top of a first class team I met a welcoming community of freedivers. I enjoyed my techniques course 100% and recommend Kalamata Freedivers to everbody interested in freediving, regardless of level. I heard a lot of things about the Kalamata Freedivers but my surpassed all my expectations: - I had a coach who offered exactly what I needed to hit a new PB (thank you Salty Olga) - The base is a place with people who make you feel welcome from the first moment on. - The team invites community building and does everything to make you feel included no matter the level of you have. I will keep coming back. Very thankful for the you people offered me Chris Had a time at Kalamata Freedivers! Big thanks to Nejc and Kai for the — it's the best spot I've discovered so far. Also really enjoyed the chat with Nikos. Looking forward to coming back! I had such an time with Kalamata Freedivers. I completed my Molchanovs Wave 2 course and found my instructor Cora and the whole staff absolutely wonderful. Plus, the center was a cool and welcoming space and all of the other divers were friendly and helpful. Now let’s talk about the conditions — WOW. Water was like glass most mornings with visibility. My only regret was that I couldn’t stay longer! If you’re thinking about hitting up Kalamata Freedivers for a course or training, do it! I had high expectations, since a friend of mine (100 m diver), who has been to a lot of centers said that this is by far the best. This met my expectations for sure. You wont regret going here and it's definately best value in Kalamata - by far! The assistants are all instructors and the atmosphere is at the center. You will be relaxed and in a place for your dives. I loved the energy of the group when I visited. I feel lucky that even briefly I had the opportunity to with them. I am very impresed with the facilities and system of organizing the equipment. The clear directions provided in order to be able to are very helpful. I felt calm, positive and happy. I think this group have an model of a center for many to follow. Love and dive. 💙 We spent one week in Kalamata, for 5 days at the buoy. Before our arrival, Nejc helped us very diligently with the organisation and when on site, the scheduling of the dives was smooth. Everyone at Kalamata Freedivers is smiley and easy-going. The mood at the line was always great, with the safety team being very attentive and supportive. Besides, the water is just beautiful! Definetely an woth repeating <3 Can't say enough things about Kalamata Freedivers!! I took the AIDA4 course; the location, conditions, facilities and, especially, the instruction were all top class. Nejc is an excellent coach, recognising issues in my technique before I could and pointing out how to address them. Highly recommended for divers of any level! Excellent school, very welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Equipment was top quality, the standard of instructors was really high and the conditions in the Messenian Gulf were perfect. Will definitely we coming back very soon, highly recommended! This was an experience. The conditions in Kalamata are great. The team is so cool ! They are very helpful and they have always advices due to their experience. It's very safe and they always folow us in our progression. I also realy appreciate the "extras" such as the yoga classes, the barbecue on the beach, the restaurant in the moutain... One of those bests holidays ever ! It was a time with wonderful people in the deep blue waters of Kalamata. It’s a super relaxed and familiar vibe and the Kalamata Freedivers is runned by divers and professionals. I recommend it for 100% and can’t wait to be back soon. I miss it already. A truly experienced centre with instructors wether your just starting out or pushing your depths to 100m the team will have you covered! Excellent place and a super laid back vibe they will accommodate anything you need. Could not of asked for a more perfect trip. The bay you in is always super calm and warm, a perfect place to dive! I visited Kalamata Freedivers in October 2024 and again in November 2025, and both experiences were absolutely incredible. In 2024, I completed my AIDA 2 course with the wonderful instructor Róisín. She was gentle, calm, and incredibly attentive—exactly the person you want beside you when you’re learning to trust yourself in the water. She helped me overcome my self-doubt and opened the door to what has now become my biggest love: freediving. In 2025, I returned to this magical place to focus on on the buoy, and once again, I was surrounded by humans. The safeties, Nikos and Nejc, were exceptional—calm, present, supportive, and truly there for every diver. Even as a beginner, I always felt included, safe, and encouraged. Their presence alone makes it easy to relax and into the deep blue. And Kalamata itself—pure peace and presence. There’s something truly special about this place. If you let it, it might just change your life :) There’s a reason most of the top divers in the world, as well as first-time divers, come here to train and learn. This really is THE best school, no question about it. It’s fun, professional, and safe. The staff is super-supportive and welcoming - whether you are a 100m diver or have never worn a mask before. The location is perfect, the equipment is top-notch, and they sell really cool T-Shirts :) Highly recommend! One of the best centres I’ve dived with! Great facilities, very organised scheduling, really friendly people, awesome vibes! The owner Nejc and Nikos are such wonderful human beings and they have a team of staff!! It made me feel really relaxed and comfortable with them or just hanging out. Really to train depth there too because the conditions are and they have dedicated safety divers (feeling a bit spoilt)! You can train on the buoys (up to 50m) or train on the mainline (competition setup) up to (basically) unlimited depth! There were so much to love! The diving, the skandalopetra, the ice bath, the dinners and laughs… It’s to have people you can trust when deep and to hang out with post-dive coffee. I can’t recommend it highly enough! Look forward to going back! Thank you KF team for a time!
