An Unforgettable Glimpse into the Real Crete! This was absolutely OUTSTANDING! From start to finish, it felt like we were experiencing the true heart and soul of Crete—not just the tourist spots, but the real, authentic island. We tasted the most incredible Greek yogurt at a local spot, visited a charming village that felt frozen in time, and sipped wine on a mountaintop that looked like it came straight out of a Disney movie. The views were breathtaking, the atmosphere was magical, and every moment felt genuine and personal. If you want to go beyond the typical tourist trail and truly feel Crete, this is the to take. Best ever! We’ve taken about 40 tours in ports around the world and none of them came even close in terms of learning about an area while having a time. Ed said he’d show us the real Crete. He couldn’t have done a better job. His English is excellent. The back-and-forth banter as we drove from site to site made the miles fly by. He provided lots of information often asking us to participate by guessing the answers. Ed has a wonderful sense of humor and he had us laughing and thoroughly enjoying the in the van. We went to places not visited by other tours. We had traditional iced coffee, picked and ate watermelon, strawberries, and cherry tomatoes. At the end of the day, we enjoyed a glass of wine by the beach before returning to the port. If you’re going to Crete, contact Explore Real Crete Tours for your best ever! What a grand we had with our Ed. In Crete. We selected a private and he happily accommodated our wishes. Hopefully you will get Ed but I am sure other guides will be good too. Ed was a blast though I failed his and review quiz catastrophicly😁AND THE FOOD🤩 Local food in old villages, oils, including Ed’s and a dip in the Mediterranean were a must do. Don’t hesitate to book with Explore Real Crete!! Are you looking for a fun, adventurous, unique tour? Then you came to the right place. We went on a with Ed. It was amazing. Ed was very funny, cheerful, and passionate. He really went above and beyond. Not only did he buy everyone coffee and served wine, he taught us a lot of about Greece and the entire world. Ed was very flexible with the plans and genuinely cared about each of the individuals on the tour. He took us to some places around the city including an oil factory, viewpoint, cave, strawberry field, and beautiful restaurant. I highly recommend this to anyone visiting Crete! We had an unforgettable day with Spyros. Our adventure started with exploring a mountain village, then progressed to Matala Beach. What a beautiful place! My family enjoyed exploring the caves. Then we went on to the ruins of Phaistos’s palace. Our last stop was at a winery. Spyros was an excellent guide, showing us out of the way gems & teaching us about Crete’s & culture. We would definitely hire him again if we are fortunate enough to visit Crete in the future. This was our favourite in all of Greece! Stavros was an incredible — friendly, funny, and full of fascinating knowledge about Crete. He took us through authentic mountain villages, groves, and beautiful countryside, sharing stories about local life, mythology, and along the way. We visited Knossos place and loved how he timed our visit perfectly to avoid the cruise ship crowds — it made the experience so much more enjoyable. We also stopped at a family-run oil factory, had a delicious traditional lunch at a local taverna, and explored hidden spots we’d never have found on our own. It truly felt like we got to experience the real Crete. Even my 13-year-old had a time! Highly recommend this to anyone wanting a genuine, memorable day on the island. We had an amazing on our across the countryside of Crete! If you're looking for an experience of the unseen villages, set amidst the most scenic mountains, roads cutting across millions of olives trees, traditional windmills, an exploratory to the oil factory book yourself a group with Explore Real Crete and you'll have it all. Don't miss the visit to the Cave of Zeus, a trek up the hill. And to make this journey and better, you have Ed who is the most gracious host! With this guy as your guide, you take home a bag full of memories, fun experiences, endless chats and not to forget a bottle of extra virgin oil from his own farm with a pack of oregano handpicked, dried and crushed by himself as a souvenir!!! We had a wonderful group with Stavros! I highly recommend booking with Explore Real Crete if you're visiting Crete. Stavros has such an approachable, thoughtful, and genuine personality. He was hilarious and kept everyone entertained throughout the day. The kids loved him, and his knowledge of Crete's and culture really enhanced our experience. You can tell he loves sharing his island with visitors. Our hit three spots: Kourtaliotiko Gorge with its beautiful waterfalls, Preveli Beach where the river meets the sea at a stunning palm forest, and lunch in Plakia village. Each location was special in its own way. We hit some road closures during the tour, but Stavros adapted quickly and made sure we still had a experience. His communication was excellent before, during, and after the tour, and he was incredibly flexible with our group's needs. His bus was spotless, too, which made the day even more comfortable. What's really impressive is that he managed to accommodate all 32 people in our group seamlessly. That's no feat! We also have to give credit to Manos, who navigated tiny mountain roads and multiple road closures with impressive skill. Stavros works with people! But here's what really shows Stavros' character. When some members of our party got stuck overnight due to flight cancellations, Stavros helped them out, suggested a local hotel, and gave them an impromptu the next day. He even sent us home with some of his own oil as a gift! If you're traveling with kids, Stavros is fantastic with them. He kept the children engaged and interested the whole day. On our hike, he made sure everyone (adults and kids alike) could keep up at their own pace and had a blast. This was one of the best parts of our Crete trip. Stavros goes well beyond what you'd expect from a because he genuinely cares about giving you a memorable experience. His local knowledge, humor, and kindness made our day special. If you want to see Crete and have a doing it, book with Stavros at Explore Real Crete. He also offers airport shuttle transfers if you need transportation -- just another way he makes everything easy for his guests. Thanks, Stavros! Stavros, with Explore Real Crete, MADE our Heraklion visit, going above and beyond! He was knowledgeable, relatable, humorous, and such a kind soul. Stavros took us to ALL the places we wanted to see, even though it was off-season. He made sure we would have an educational, fulfilling time. Even though the weather on our day didn't cooperate as much as it could have, Stavros STILL gave our family THE BEST experiences. Stavros even offered to reschedule because of the weather, but we wanted to continue. Stavros arranged for us to privately Omalia Press with an authentic tasting, as well as a stop in a valley of trees, explaining the olives and process. He bought us coffees in a quaint, charming village, drove us to the windmills on the Lassithi Plateau, to Knossos Palace and to the ancient Platanus Tree in Krasi. As we visited in off-season, the winery we wanted to visit had already closed for winter, but Stavros went ABOVE and BEYOND, providing multiple varieties of wines and rakis for us to try in the natural beauty of the mountains. He did not have to do this, but provided this experience for us. Because Stavros customizes his tours per requests, he also took us to see highlights in Heraklion, such as the Venetian walls and the Rocca a Mare Fortress and to a cute stop for lunch. Stavros and Explore Real Crete are the BEST!! TEN out of five stars! You will be doing yourself a disservice by not booking with Stavros! I can’t emphasize how amazing of a he is! His charisma was enough to wake up the entire group. He was also incredibly knowledgeable about all the of Crete. He took us to visit the Crete you don’t get to see in the commercials, we got to see the authentic and local side of things. The best part is that he doesn’t take you to any tourist traps! I will without a doubt only rely on Stavros for all my future Crete trips!!! Our group cannot thank Ed enough for the 2 lovely days we spent with him. He was engaging and knowledgeable. Village was sensational as we were able to learn about olives, yoghurt, village life and many more things. Lots of opportunities for taste testing. Thanks for the wine too. Lunch was in an elegant spot with nice foods. Ed even helped get our bags from our accommodation and drove us to next accommodation. His organisation and flexibility for Knossos was sensational. We loved every minute. You have to do these tours if you are ever travelling to Crete A Magical Day in Crete with Stavros: The Ultimate Family Adventure In June, my husband, our three children (ages 7, 4, and an infant), and I embarked on an unforgettable eight-hour private with Stavros, exploring Zeus’s birthplace, traditional Cretan villages, ancient windmills, and an oil factory. From start to finish, Stavros crafted a day so extraordinary that it became the highlight of our family’s Greek vacation. His ability to personalize the to captivate our young children for an entire day—a feat few could achieve—was nothing short of remarkable. If you’re considering a in Crete, especially with kids, book with Stavros. He’ll make it one of the most memorable days of your trip. Stavros’s thoughtfulness shone through the moment he learned our children’s ages. On the spot, he arranged a strawberry-picking activity that had our kids squealing with delight as they filled baskets with juicy, ripe berries we later brought back to our resort. The joy on their faces was priceless, and it set the tone for a day filled with surprises. Later, he organized an impromptu pottery and clay-making workshop, which was hands-down the highlight of our children’s trip. Watching them mold clay with local artisans, giggling and creating keepsakes, gave them lifelong memories we’ll cherish forever. Traveling with three young children often feels like a balancing act, but Stavros seamlessly stepped in as an extra pair of hands. At one point, he carried our 4-year-old daughter up rocky terrain to safely reach the windmills, where she marveled at the traditional process of grinding grain for bread. His patience and genuine connection with our kids made them adore him—he was a rockstar in their eyes, entertaining them with jokes and stories that kept spirits high all day. As a mom, I was especially grateful for his safe, confident driving. Stavros meticulously accommodated our car seats and harnesses, ensuring our children were secure, which isn’t always a given and meant the world to us. The journey itself was a love letter to Crete’s soul. Stavros, a native of a Cretan village, brought the island to life with heartfelt stories of his childhood and the “real” Crete. His tales made the drives between stops—often a challenge with young kids—delightful and engaging. Visiting remote mountain towns like Mochos and Krasi felt like stepping back in time, and Stavros’s warm relationships with locals made us feel like honored guests. Shopkeepers and villagers welcomed us with open hearts, adding an authentic warmth to our exploration. The day culminated in a breathtaking lunch at a taverna overlooking the Lasithi Plateau and its majestic mountains. The food was a delicious celebration of Cretan flavors, and the view was simply unforgettable—a perfect capstone to an extraordinary day. But Stavros’s kindness didn’t stop there. Knowing we lacked a rental car, he offered to stop at a grocery store on the way back to our resort so I could pick up supplies for our infant. This but meaningful gesture, done with a genuine smile, spoke volumes about his character. Stavros isn’t just an exceptional guide; he’s a truly kind-hearted person whose warmth shone through in every interaction. From his encyclopedic knowledge to his knack for entertaining kids, Stavros turned a potentially daunting full-day into a seamless, joy-filled adventure. We wholeheartedly recommend his tours to anyone visiting Crete, but especially to families with young children who might hesitate about a lengthy excursion. Trust us: book with Stavros. He’ll go above and beyond to ensure your day is not just a tour, but a cherished memory that will linger long after you leave Crete. Thank you, Stavros, for giving our family a day we’ll never forget! Amazing tour! Wonderful day on Crete! Only had a single day on Crete and were looking for a way to get the most out of it. And wow! We had a time! The scenery, the smells, the flavors. But also the stories and the history. What a place and what a day! I will never forget it. We could not have done it without our showing us around, guiding us on a experience! From the villages to the palaces all worth seeing. tour, well organized, very knowledgeable guide. was friendly, outgoing and really enthusiastic about his work! Made sure that everyone was having a good time. Hope I can do it again some day! Fully recommend it to anyone visiting Crete! This was the best we’ve ever been on. Ed was kind, funny, witty, and provided insights into and mythology (as he should, being the son of Zeus). He is extremely genuine, and his love for his home really shines. My wife and I spent a few days in Crete for our honeymoon—we went into the really liking Crete but came out absolutely loving it. If I could recommend a to anyone, it is this one. Ed went out of his way to make sure everyone had the best time, and it was also really meeting his friend Demetrius, who also provided insight into being a native Cretan and an owner of an grove. I truly cannot recommend this enough—I would give it 100 stars if I could. Ed, thank you thank you for the most excellent and for the oil (yes—he gave us oil from his own trees!!). It was absolutely wonderful, and we hope to return to Crete someday! Winery + Oil factory – Old Villages Recommended! We had so much fun with the Stavros. He is charismatic and has a humor. He drove us around and we had a pleasant conversation about the culture of Crete and many other topics. We visited a view on higher altitude with a glass of wine, near the old windmills. The oil factory was interesting, and we had a tasting session in the Lyrarakis Winery. We bought some wine with us to go. Also they sell oil. Stavros also invited us to his ancestors' home where he introduced us the living ways back in the old days. Treated us with traditional Greek yogurt with honey and walnuts - delicious! Thank you Stavros for the fun time! We had a with Ed. He was witty but passionate about his island, and definitely got us out of the city and into the mountains and villages. We had iced coffee in a village, learned about trees and oil, and had an incredible lunch at a mountaintop restaurant. He was honest about potential stops and what would be a tourist trap versus a real site to enjoy. We finished our day at the Knossos palace- which he had described much of the of throughout the day. He was very willing to be flexible if there were other sites we wanted to see. Highly recommend.
