This place was recommended by the owner of our holiday villa and it did not disappoint!!!! Totally authentic, the staff were delightful and the lamb (the only thing on the menu on a Sunday I believe) which was cooked across the road, spit roasted on an open fire and carried across to the kitchens to be carved was probably the best lamb I have ever tasted. We sat outside. Barely any tables left and we arrived at 1230. Huge tree in the centre of the outside dining terrace that provided welcome shade. Stairs to the terrace are quite steep. All the food came up there from the kitchen that was at street level. Staff ran their legs off going up and down with everything. Parking was slightly haphazard so you basically parked where you could. We assumed that every car there was owned by someone eating in the restaurant, so if you had blocked someone in they would just come and get you!! Mostly local people eating there I think. The local priest was there with one group. A truly memorable, relaxing feast of a Sunday lunch. Would definitely visit again if in the area. Outstanding. Amazing tavern, everything is delicious, especially the long cooked meats in the outdoor open fire oven (available on Sundays and on special orders) and the best lamb chops in creete! Yorgus is a super warm host, and the atmosphere is Devine! Wow, just wow, the food here is incredible, one of the best meals I have ever had. Don't miss it! Try the fillet lamb with herbs. I have been eating here for more than 15 years. Great atmosphere, food & service. Still the best antikristo you will find (the owner raises his own lambs). Order the classics: Ksigalo, Fasolakia Symiana, Makaronia Anthotyro, & Antikristo. If you are feeling adventurous, there are also other special Cretan delicacies you can find here: Patsas Kokkinistos, Splinogardoymo, Katsikaki Ampelofylla, etc. Can't recommend enough. Magical village high up in the mountains. With a delicious drinking water fountain. Beautiful old tree and terrace view. Lamb Chops were delicious and complimentary homemade yoghurt for dessert was incredible. service was so friendly and welcoming worth the drive we will be back Fantastic stuffed lamp on grapeleaves! Have never tried this before and it was amazing! Great food and really friendly service. Brilliant value for money and the host was very kind in translating the menu for us! Would highly recommend! This was an excellent experience. The first floor terrace provided panoramic views and the service was great. The food was plentiful, fresh, local and well prepared. I couldn't recommend this Taverna more. And to top it all it was very reasonably priced.
