Postenturm (Post Tower) is a former defensive and now an observation tower. You can see the whole of Bacharach and Rhine River from top of the tower. P.S. DO NOT FOLLOW the long walking route that Google Map provides to come here. There are direct paths from the old town. You'll find the signs somewhere. An observation on the periphery of the and the slope where vines are grown. It is not far from the centre. Nothing spectcular about the but it offers awesome views of the with its outstanding St. Peter Church and Werner Chapel ruins and of course the Rhine River. The surrounding vineyards are beautiful as well especially during Autumn when the grapes ripe and the leaves of grapevines turn yellow and reddish brown. After the tower, you may walk up the slope to see the ruins of part of the walls and towers. Free of charge! Breathtaking view of the Bacharach in the Rhine Valley. The stands about 65 steps above the ground, offering a fantastic point that’s perfect for photos. Is make of wood Interestingly, the has a quirky English name: the "Cat Tower." However, the German name doesn't seem to reference this at all, which adds an amusing twist to its identity. This unique feature, along with the picturesque surroundings, makes it an ideal spot for a memorable visit. Picturesque and very photogenic place capturing the beauty of Rhine Valley in one snapshot. It was only a short 5 to 10 minute walk from the Barabach village, either on the main path (more comfortable) or through the vineyard (steep and a bit dangerous as I almost slipped on the gravel). The entry to the was free and after climbing a couple of floors we were rewarded by a stunning view of the village, Rhine valley and the Barabach castle. It was worth the effort and the sweat to come all the way up as this kind of view is hard to find! Visited in May 2022. Great viewpoint. Free entry. Short steep hike with a beautiful view. As can be seen by my over exposed shots the light would probably be better in the afternoon for photos. A wonderful observation tower. It's not possible to climb on the top floor but even though it has a beautyful view to the city. There is a bench on the lower floor, where it's possible to take a break because climb to the isn't the easiest. There is also a huge wineyard nearby where it's possible to have a nice walk. Although overcast & raining on the day of our visit, it was well worth the walk up to the Postenturm for the views over the & along the Rhein river.
