Fantastic company, very helpful from day one, great communication leading up to the trip. Hotel choice was great, booked us meals each night in lovely restaurants, communication throughout the trip. Bernard our guide was amazing, very professional, friendly, approachable and knowledgeable about the area. Highly reccomend, I am certainly already thinking about my next Sally’s 5-day hiking itinerary in the southern Alps was a bit daunting for me since I’m not a big climber. But guess what? She created the perfect plan for our small group of three - two guys and a skeptical woman like me! We checked into a cozy family-run hotel in Valgaudemar on June 7th. Claude, the host, was warm, welcoming, and the most wonderful person we met. Colette and Chloe cooked for us for three days, including delicious picnics we packed for our hikes through village de navette, lac du lauzon, and pic-de-gleize. It was like eating grandma’s cooking, unpretentious and tasty! Claude’s 65-year-old family-run hotel is a place we’d love to visit again. Our second hotel, run by Jean and Meg, had views and gourmet meals. One of the dinners was a 10-course degustation - it was incredible! Sally also arranged two fantastic guides for us: Bernard and Christophe. Bernard kept us entertained with his cheerful descriptions of the surroundings, his knowledge of the local vegetation, and even his impressive knowledge of wolves! Christophe was knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of Champsaur and regaled us with stories about working with schoolchildren. We saw many marmots sunning themselves and hiked to many beautiful peaks in the southern Alps and returned home planning our next to the Alps! Thank you Sally, Bernard, and Christophe for such a thoughtfully curated hiking through the southern Alps! You made us feel like royalty! If you are planning an activity in the Southern Alps, Undiscovered Mountains is the company to use. It is wonderful having your itinerary organised for you with all your requests in mind. Even with two families they managed to be spot on with our chosen activities. You can be as adventurous as you want....or simply enjoy the scenery with less demanding activities. We were pushed to our limits with some of our and we are so thankful as we came away feeling incredibly accomplished and proud of ourselves, and with huge smiles on our faces. The accommodation was just what we needed and to wake up with spectacular views of the mountains was an absolute pleasure every morning. I highly recommend Undiscovered Mountains so you can just sit back....or get active....without having to think about it. Thank you so much to Sally, Jules and the wonderful Bernard for making our second with you so memorable, we will certainly be back! We had an absolutely time on our multi-activity in the French Alps with The Undiscovered Mountains. Everything was so well organized from start to finish, and we felt incredibly well looked after throughout our stay. Jules was simply fantastic—kind, friendly, and endlessly supportive. His energy and guidance made every activity even more enjoyable. We made unforgettable memories: from tackling the best via ferrata we’ve ever experienced, to the breathtaking hike and climb up to the mountain refuge, and topping it all off with the incredible thrill of paragliding. Every moment felt special. A massive thank you to Sally, Bernard, and Jules—you were all awesome. We’re so glad we found The Undiscovered Mountains. This has left us with stories and memories we’ll cherish forever! Highly recommended to anyone looking for adventure, nature, and a truly personal experience in the Alps. Thank you from Lucie, George and Nicolas We were looking for an active but weren't looking forward to the hassle of searching for the best places to be and how to fit everything into a schedule. We were really surprised when we found Undiscovered mountains. They promised us a beautiful accomodation and (after we picked our activities) would make our itinary. That sounded perfect for us! In the end it turned out even better: Jules was waiting for us at our accomodation. That was the start of the very personal approach of Undiscovered mountains. We knew that we could contact Jules with any problem we would have (when I fell ill, he quickly resceduled our activity and checked up on us without being intrusive). The owner of our accomodation (La grange des Ecrins) Jean was really welcoming and created a very familie-like environment. He has made a very beautiful, surprising place with a lot of relaxing and playful spots. His wife Meg was a perfect cook (I am usually afraid of trying new things, now I didn't even ask for the menu, I would just try whatever she made). JB has the rare talent to show up whenever he was needed with the calm reassurence that everything is fine and will be even great. The in itself were perfect, they exceeded our expextations and we were accompanied by very good guides that knew a lot about the environment, the skills needed, when to push a person, when to use humor, and when to give trust and let us explore by ourselves (special thanks to Bernard and Jacques!) Thanks again for this perfect holiday! Als je een beetje Engels spreekt, is dit voor Nederlanders ook echt de perfecte vakantie! For the past three years, Undiscovered Mountains has been the trusted partner for our Year 8 Leavers’ Programme at Yardley Court, Somerhill — and their impact on our pupils has been profound. Based in the southern French Alps, the team brings decades of local expertise and a genuine passion for crafting tailor-made adventures that suit the needs and ethos of each group they work with. Our June expeditions are a highlight of the school year. Each is carefully shaped to combine physical challenge, personal growth, and natural beauty — from multi-day hikes through the Queyras, summiting peaks like Le Rouchon (2929m), and staying in remote mountain refuges, to paddleboarding, white-water rafting, via ferrata and the always-popular canyoning. These experiences are far from touristy — they offer an authentic immersion into Alpine life, landscapes and culture. The guides are knowledgeable and encouraging, managing to stretch pupils outside their comfort zones while keeping a close eye on safety and group dynamics. As with any of this scale and complexity, there are times when plans shift or weather conditions change — but the remains flexible and responsive to our needs, without losing its structure or sense of adventure. From the planning stage to the return flight, communication with the team — especially founder Sally — is excellent. Questions are answered promptly, itinerary changes discussed openly, and their local connections allow us to access places and experiences that would be difficult to organise through larger operators. This is more than just a school trip. It is a digital detox, a lesson in self-reliance, and a rite of passage. Boys come back stronger, more confident, and with stories that ripple through the school for years to come. Their post-trip presentations — especially the footage from their canyoning and hiking challenges — have left many younger pupils determined to stay on for Year 8 just to take part. Undiscovered Mountains helps transform an end-of-year excursion into a truly life-shaping adventure. For any school or family seeking a meaningful, memorable and responsibly managed expedition in the Alps, we recommend Sally and her team wholeheartedly. We had a fantastic with Undiscovered Mountains and it has been one of the best experiences we have had as a family. The whole team have been from the organisation prior to our trip. To the personal touches and a personalised app that gave us all the details we needed everyday with a full itinerary down to maps to our destinations. Our accommodation at La Grange des Ecrins was first rate with food that was to die for. The team made us feel part of the family but not too intrusive. We had a full range of that were amazing, well organised and very safe despite the adrenaline inducing nature. Our kids loved them and ranked Canyoning number one. We took the option of a night in a refuge which was a first for us and such an experience to wake up and be high up in the wilderness above the clouds and experience a Brocken Spectre. Everyone involved was so friendly and welcoming. They kept in close contact to ensure we were safe and well. It really felt like a millionaires holiday. We cannot recommend it enough. The Scott family Just returned from an awesome in the Southern Alps with Undiscovered Mountains. We are 2 adults and 3 children (15y,13y and 9y) Very well organised, clear communication and useful information about the area, suggested walks etc. given via the app, during the welcome meeting and throughout our week via WhatsApp. Our highlights were canyoning and via ferrata, thank you Bernard for being a wonderful guide!
