I am simply amazed - I thought that places like that (especially near such popular Etna) don't exist anymore. It really has that unique climate of mountain shelters but it also offers everything you need to have a good time: great food, beer and water and - most importantly - amazing, helpful stuff. Do not overpay in other places! Here you're about 7 minutes from the start of Etna excursions, you have a lot of parking space and you get your peace and quiet! It is an ideal place to enjoy and get to know 🌋 Etna up close. It is surrounded by forests and nature is beautiful. It is a quiet and cozy place. I felt at home. Its owner is very friendly 😊 and the food he offered us was delicious 😋 🤤. It was an excellent experience 👌🏾 and I will definitely return. I've stayed in various mountain hostels, but what I experienced at Rifugio Ariel – such greed and overcharging for a room that doesn’t meet even a 1-star standard – I have never seen before. Broken furniture, windows that can’t be closed, with room temperatures dropping to 10°C at night, no heating (despite being listed in the offer), no proper food facilities, no restaurant (even though their website claims they have one – it's just a basic kitchen reheating old food and charging more than in real, nice Italian restaurants). I wasn’t going to write a review because the beautiful forest around was a positive aspect. But what tipped me over the edge was ordering a simple cappuccino at this 'restaurant'. I received a disgusting, watery black coffee from a machine (I’m attaching a photo of this 'cappuccino'), without any milk, and the guy still charged me 1 euro for it. I felt like he spat in my face, thinking he could scam me just because I’m a tourist. I have NEVER experienced such a scam in my life, and I never thought the worst coffee I would ever have would come from an 'Italian'. Shame on you. How can you exploit and treat people like this? Beautifully located mountain hut, with a super friendly and helpful owner and very sweet dog. We had a great experience! We would definitely come here again! Absolutely loved our stay. Rustic, delicious and full of heart. The hosts were so delightful - we really felt at home... If our home happened to be on an ancient volcanic mountain surround by a pine forest. Highly recommended We've spent two nights at the rifugio and we LOVED IT ! 😍 The refuge owner Carmelo is super nice and always welcomed us with a good mood and a smile 😊 The food was good and the rooms really clean, we can only recommend!
