Absolutely in love with the place, completely magic it was one of my dreams to be there where the TV show Merlin was filmed. For a Merlin fan it’s great, you can see where a lot of scenes were filmed and it is really interesting. Viollet-le-Duc's spectacular Gothic revival castle appears straight from a fairy tale. The work that's being done doesn't spoil the view. We only had a few hours spare so we spent most of it walking around enjoying looking at the old houses and sitting by the lake it was very relaxing. It was a great experience to this castle. It only takes 1hr10mins - 1hr20mins drive from Paris to here. The is only about 2-3hours long, if you plan well and up early enough, you can still do lot of other activities the same day Amazing just 1.5 hours out of Paris!!! Sometimes the crowds of Paris can get in the way but out here, the crowds fade in favor of ancient forests and streams that transport you back to the 16th century. The is magnificently perched high above the little village of Pierrefonds and is just a magical place full of art, and architecture. Highly recommended and most places in the I was alone. This was an incredible to see. It really feels like a medieval you saw in story books growing up. Lots of cool rooms, doors and animals all over. The chapel had beautiful stained glass. No furniture really, mostly empty rooms in most areas but it was still very cool to see. It’s not a traditional castle, but rather a blend of architectural styles that gives it a fairytale charm. This unique character makes it a fun and memorable place to — all the more so because it’s set amidst beautiful natural surroundings. More than expected would give more than 5 stars if I could! There is a lot of (chateau) information for the other half of the couple that doesn’t care about Merlin… really interesting and information on the of the castle. It’s HUGE!! They provide leaflets in English (and I’d assume other languages) for those ignorant enough not to learn the native tongue before holiday (could never be me). Good value at €9 per head This is a magnificent place to visit. My family had a good look around this awesome historic chateau. The views it from outside and also the views of pierrefonds town are also breathtaking. It is very reasonably priced and definitely worth a look at if you are in the area. Absolutely an sight to see! it was worth the uber ride from Gare de Compiègne to come here (if you don’t have a car). I got there just 10 mins before opening on Sunday and wow it was a very rare treat for me b/c it was just me going through the until 1 hour later, some people showed up. I saw everything in the (in its entirety including some great photos/videos and cellar) and surrounding area just around 1.2 hrs. Worth it! I explored the on my own and was lucky with the weather – the sunlight made the entire setting feel even more magical. The is truly impressive, and everything is beautifully preserved. It’s a place where feels alive. What really stood out to me was how enjoyable the whole experience was: from the grand halls to the quiet courtyards and towers, there’s so much to discover – and you’re free to take it all in at your own pace. There’s also a surprisingly modern and well-designed souvenir shop inside, perfect for browsing and picking up something special to remember the visit. After the tour, I highly recommend staying a while – there are several charming cafés and little shops just outside the where you can sit down, enjoy a coffee and a bite to eat, and soak in the fairytale atmosphere a little longer. A truly delightful and memorable stop – I’d come back any time. It was quiet as we went at the end of season but the area is nice. I like the overall feel of the place as it was relaxed and easy going but there's not a lot there. I still liked the time I spent there as it was very laid back. Well I've been back and had a walk around the it's still being renovated and the work that's being done doesn't spoil the view. Has a sort of medevial aura, both on the interior and exterior. Loved every minute of it. An underrated that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed visiting every time. The surrounding landscape beautifully evokes the atmosphere of the medieval era. The itself is stunning, with its grand towers and detailed that instantly spark your imagination. A very wonderful place to spend some time in, culture and nature is amazing, some points need to work on, like transportation and places are not served by uber so you have to get there by your own car or rent a car also restaurants close early so you need to have your food with you if planning to stay evening time there I’ve visited a lot of castles through out Europe. But this was one my daughter wanted to see due to the Merlin show being shot here. And just wow. Truly stunning. The restoration is incredible. It’s well worth a trip if you’re heading out or into Calais. The village is also sooo pretty. I recommend driving on the steep road next to the and parking up the top where there is a bit of a hidden car park! Very lovely castle, lots of filming locations from Merlin, although no references to the series :(. Some of the is closed for restoration but there is still a lot to see, as well as an exhibition about Viollet-le-Duc. Overall it wasn't busy, so makes for a good day out.
