The Village Bavarian Forest is an open-air near Tittling. It is located on the southwestern shore of Lake Dreiburgen in the Bavarian Forest. The covers over 25 hectares with over 150 buildings, from the period 1580-1850, and a folklore collection with 60,000 objects. To this date it is one of the largest open-air museums in Europe. If you are in the area it is worth paying the 7€ entry fee. Make sure to wear good shoes as there is quiet a bit of walking involved. I also suggest to take something to drink, especially in summer time. Only the signs for the walk around could be entered better. A nice place to see the old Bavarian village. Unfortunately opening hours are short, much more shorter than those of the restaurant there. Restaurant serves typical Bavarian dishes but there are some vegetarian options - better to ask the waiter than try to understand by yourself. Rather an expensive place but pitoresque. If you want to acknowledge Bavarian taste go there. If you prefer to have a good not too expensive meal - avoid it! There is a nice lake opposite the road. This and the may be a good idea for spending a weekend with children. Visited the cafe only due to underestimating the time it would take for a 6 year old to walk round the Dreiburgsee. Museum looks interesting but none of the buildings are open due to COVID 19 restrictions. Very interesting place to visit. The guide was very nice. Loved it..i love weathered wooden old houses and doors and many of these were cute or beautiful...great way to save history and culture from the old days for those who care to explore. Very photogenic and we managed to see almost everything in the hour to hour and a half we had rushing to see as much as possible as we arrived late. Nice sunshine though. The restaurant in the old building at the entrance is open for evening meals, worth trying The was nice to walk around, however due to covid restrictions the houses were closed and after paying at the automated gate our 2 euros (which was very cheap) our son needed the WC which was closed inside (due to Corona). The only other possibility was to leave and use the Gast Haus outside. A sign by the gate would be nice! Extensive consisting of many buildings dating from 15-20th centuries relocated from other parts of the Bavarian Forest Region to form a village. The displays are well presented with information pertaining to each house clearly displayed in German. This added another dimension as it informed about previous inhabitants. The children‘s play areas were very child friendly with interactive exhibits comparing tools from today and yesteryears and play house. The only negative point for us was a lack of refreshments within the area. There is also no designated picnic area (in case, unlike us you come prepared). While this may have distracted from the authenticity of the village, it meant we cut our visit short. The neighbouring Gasthaus is however excellent. Well, came especially to see an open museum, paid 2 euros and then I understood that *everything* is closed! You can only see the buildings outside...so whey bother?? Total waste of time. And another thing , saw a memorial chapel to the Vermact soldiers with veterans ...didn't see anything about their victims though....
