Had an excellent day out with the Dartmouth Railway and Boat Company while on holiday in Torquay. We did the and trip, which included a nostalgic half-hour journey by from Paignton to Kingswear, a short crossing to Dartmouth, and a scenic along the Dart which lasted about an hour. An adult ticket costs £35, it's £24 for a child, and you can buy a family ticket for £110. I came with a coach party, and we were given our own carriage and our own seat numbers. From the ticket office, you walk across a level crossing, and the entrance to the heritage railway station is on your right. There's a gift shop, toilets, and a little café where you can get drinks, cakes and ice-cream. The 11.30 departure was right on time, the carriage was clean and comfortable, the ticket collector was very helpful, and we enjoyed lovely coastal and woodland scenery all the way to Kingswear. No commentary or refreshments, but there were toilets on board. We walked straight off the on to the passenger ferry. Our boat was moored right next to the landing in Dartmouth, and embarkation could not have been easier. The skipper, Mark, and his crew were both knowledgeable and friendly. We could get drinks and snacks in the downstairs cabin, and there were also toilets on the boat. Plenty of seating (and the best views!) on the outside upper deck, and it was dog friendly too. We enjoyed a lovely sail up the Dart as far as Greenway - the former home of Agatha Christie - and the village of Dittisham, before heading back towards the estuary and Dartmouth Castle, passing the Royal Naval College and Bayard's Cove on the way. Spotted herons and other waterbirds. Lively and informative commentary from Jo, who made sure we didn't miss any of the landmarks. This was a great from start to finish. Would definitely recommend! We had a lovely day out. Picturesque route and lovely trains and carriages. The lad in the booking office in Paignton was great. Very friendly, helpful and polite. The gift shops could be better stocked/sell better quality items/a better selection of things. Polar Express train. Really good. Father Christmas on the with presents for the kids. Lots of decorations all the way to Kingswear. Highly recommend. A very pleasant along the coast then onto the to Dartmouth, Childhood nostalgia, the is a fun way to get from Paignton to Dartmouth. The locomotives are stunning and it’s certainly a fancy way to travel. Easy connection across to Dartmouth. A very fun day out. Great on the train. Lols of scenic and gives a different perspective of the towns and surrounding landscape via the train. Also very smooth compared to some other trains I've been on. We enjoyed an awesome on this delightfully nostalgic Railway as part of a Caledonian Coach to Devon. It was only a short journey, but very enjoyable with magnificent trains pulling the traditional carriages. There was a lovely shop at both ends of the line and all the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Excellent railway, with magnificent as it runs around the bay, and along the Dart. The ticket includes the across to Dartmouth from Kingswear, from where you can take a choice of boat trips and cruises. The staff are really friendly and helpful, and the young lady in the tea room at Kingswear was so kind as I spilled my tea over the table and floor - she gave me another cup and cleared up the spill. Great fun What a wonderful trip! From the rail station to the conductor on the everyone was so cheerful. What a great way to history. I’m so happy it was decided to keep the locomotives coal burning rather than converting as well. The smell of bit coal never gets old! I took my family for my son’s birthday and he will forever have a fond memory of this trip! We also took the boat but will have to come back and do it all again as the boat was being worked on. Fantastic to on a between Paignton and Dartmouth. There is also the option of adding a for a hour that is also highly recommended. Arrive early to enjoy both and also see the areas around Dartmouth which has some wonderful and scenery. I did the Round Robin Ticket it was a fantastic day out the weather was perfect I like it was Train, Bost and Bus. The was amazing We've been on quite a few options as one of my children is obsessed with them 🤣 This was the most meaningful one in terms of scenery: amazing of the coast, we even saw pheasant! The is long enough and the seats comfortable enough. We all enjoyed it and were rather 'sad' when it ended because we couldn't wait to see the next surprise. The ticket includes the crossing to Dartmouth which is also worth visiting. If you travel earlier consider booking a boat to go visit Dame Agatha Christie's House. Due to our return times and having lunch we only booked one where we couldnt disembark so had to content ourselves with a view from the river. It's not a cheap day out but certainly worth every penny and would highly recommend. And probably do again. Amazing! flys by way too quick. Scenery is breathtaking. was also a nice way to break up the day. Some good options for food and gifts at Dartmouth once you get off the ferry. Staff were all friendly and helpful. was clean a comfortable with assigned seats which was nice. There are areas to leave pushchairs (which I didn’t notice on the way 🤦🏼♀️) which was really handy, so no need to unload or put down the pushchair. Lots of space inc seats in a wheelchair carriage. Brilliant day out such a good experience! We took the from Paignton to Kingswear, then got the little over to Dartmouth, and it honestly couldn’t have been better. The was so relaxing, with amazing all the way along the coast proper old-school vibes with the engine, vintage carriages, and that chugging sound. The staff were great too friendly and happy to chat or help if you needed anything. The itself was really well looked after, and you could tell they take pride in keeping it authentic. Once we got to Kingswear, the to Dartmouth was quick and easy, and Dartmouth itself is stunning colourful houses, lovely cafés, and loads to look around. I’d definitely recommend it if you’re visiting the area. Would 100% do it again! A must do attraction for a nostalgic on a to spend a day in Dartmouth... and back. A fantastic day out. The Dartmouth Railway is a real gem. It is a perfect mix of nostalgia, stunning scenery, and great organisation. The journey was smooth and scenic, with amazing of the coastline and countryside. You really feel like you've stepped back in time. We bought the combined ticket for the train, ferry, and cruise, and I highly recommend doing the same. It made the whole seamless and really good value for money. Each part of the offered something different. The was quick and easy, and the was relaxing with beautiful and interesting commentary. Staff were friendly, and everything ran right on time. Whether you're visiting as a couple, family, or on your own, this is such a great way to explore the area. Can’t wait to do it again. A visit to the UK won’t be complete without a on a heritage railway. The to Kingswear is amazing. This can not be said about the price. 64 pounds is a bit too high. For this kind of money, you would expect a bit more action/information on board of the train. This is a great way to travel between Paignton and Dartmouth. I have been in both Summer and Winter and I never get tired of the amazing view as you travel in the quaint train. All the staff are both friendly and helpful. Fantastic heritage railway. Smooth into Dartmouth, prices are very reasonable. Recommend the boat as a package. Brilliant journey (25 mins each way). It was nice to leave Dartmouth and get to Paignton with no fuss and stunning Beautiful experience. The tickets were £23.50 and this included return and over to Dartmouth. The Pullman observation carriage is £3pp one way as is on a first come first serve basis. So do yourself a favour and arrive the 30 minutes before departure as requested. Wheelchairs catered for. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! This in my opinion is worth every penny. We did train, to Dartmouth, cruise, back to Kingswear then back to Paignton. A full and fun day out. Kids and adults really enjoyed. The was incredibly enjoyable, offering both a thrilling and beautiful scenery to admire. My husband & I really enjoyed this day out. We even took our pooch along with us who also seemed to enjoy the day. We felt the price for this day out was very reasonable for everything that we experienced - ride, & with tour guide educating passengers of the history of Dartmouth. Heading to Greenway to visit Agatha Christie's summer home, we had to travel by train. So nostalgic and unique experience. Loved the journey so much, would definitely do it again. It is a great place to visit. I have been there quite a few times and will be there again soon. I highly recommend it A great day out. There is almost too much choice with the rail and boat trips but I did the and the hours on the Dart. Quite expensive but worth it. The carriage I was in was virtually empty which made for a very chilled out ride. The seats are a bit lumpy but all in all a fantastic experience. Fun day out with the family. You can either just do the and crossing then mooch around Dartmouth before doing the same back or do a loop involving a 90 minutes cruise. Shorter is available but that returns back to Dartmouth.
