The is worth a for the views of course - the parking is a very nice point to see the sunset even if the is closed at that time. Of course the museum of byzantine art inside of it is also worth a - for only 2 euros per person you get a lot of interesting stuff from the guide. Nicely restored castle. You can get there by car or motorcycle, but also walking but keep in mind that it is very steep. Also keep in mind that the hours are not correct in Google Maps, when we visited the is open between 9.00-13.00 and closed in the afternoon. We arrived after closing but found the door open and were able to enjoy a wander around. The church was not open sadly. We took a taxi up as it is a long steep trek upwards but, oh the views. Absolutely stunning. It was very windy up there. Still absolutely worth a visit. Piękne widoki The of Panteli (also called the of Panagia) is an absolute must-see when visiting Leros. Perched high above Panteli and Agia Marina, it offers breathtaking panoramic views of the island and the Aegean. The itself has a rich history, dating back to Byzantine times and later fortified by the Knights of St. John. Walking through its gates feels like stepping into another century. Inside you’ll also find the Church of Panagia, where you can venerate the relics of Saint (Osia) Gavrilia, adding a deeply spiritual layer to the visit. We saw that there is also a museum but it was not open during the we visited. Don’t rely on Google Maps for opening hours, they’re not accurate. It’s best to ask locals before going, as times can vary. Entrance is completely free. Getting there requires either a drive up the hill or a fairly steep walk with many steps, we went twice, once with a motorbike and also walking. The scenery around the is also spectacular and you can combine it with a to the molinos. Aivan mahtava. Tuskaa oli kävellä ylös mutta kyllä kannatti Very interesting. An extremely windy day, there were parts we needed to take care because of the wind. Completely free, so a "must do" if you have a car or scooter on Leros. Great location to view the whole island and see the scale of the mountains and the beautiful surroundings. It is free, no cost. Accessible by car although very steep. It’s also walkable - a good climb up to get the heart pumping. There is a little shop but the is basically in ruins with steps not accessible to those unstable on their feet so I wouldn’t be recommending it to any elderly relative. But worth the effort to see We took a scooter up to the parking area which is located right beside the castle. We went on a hot summer day at 16 & it was too hot to enjoy the castle. However we were completely alone there. Will definitely come back during the evening instead. Super interesting & huge with amazing views! Wish there were information boards about the history on the site. Beautiful castle, reasonably well preserved, definitely worth a visit, with wonderful views over Leros. We took the wrong route to walk up! Make sure if you’re walking you go around the white steps to get up! The is remarkably preserved, sadly we were unable to go into the museum at the time, none the less is is a wonderful view from the walls. A source of historical pride and spiritual refreshment for the locals and ethnic descendants of this island. Every I Leros, visiting the Κάστρο is a non-negotiable stop for me and my family. Highly recommend visiting during sunrise/set - but any of day provides a beautiful vantage point of Agia Marina and surrounding areas. Wish the tourists coming from the eastern border were more respectful. This is not only a historical site, but an active place of worship (Παναγία του Κάστρου) - please treat it with the respect and reverence it deserves if you as a guest of the country.
