Another interesting cemetery The Arras to the Missing is an imposing, but moving tribute to almost 35,000 men of the British and Commonwealth forces, most of whom fell during the Battle of Arras between April and May 1917. The forms the entrance to the Faubourg d'Amiens Cemetery which contains the graves of more than 2,600 men, mostly from the Great War. Very poignant place, it really brings the reality of war home. Very sad to know that a name on the wall is a missing soldier or non combatant, they will never be forgotten. A beautiful in the centre of Arras. The Arras is actually several memorials to the Commonwealth all put together in one location. Here at the you will see Americans Germans Canadians British New Zealand South Africans as well as other people that help the Commonwealth during the war. There is also a Russian grave on site. I would recommend you plan at least 45 minutes to view and appreciate this location. Of special note is the German memorials mixed with the Commonwealth graves. At the far end of the cemetery you will also find a American Colonel who is memorialized in the cemetery. Beautiful but surrounded by houses with no parking, so not as peaceful as other memorials I've visited. There are a couple of steps to access, so it is not 100% accessible. No facilities. Came with a large group at 11am and we had it to ourselves. Wonderfully maintained with beautiful flowers. Huge stone memorials provide a wonderful entrance while blocking out the noise from the streets making it very peaceful inside. We got to see German soldiers buried here and done so with respect. We went as a group with the Somme Society ,A beutifull cemitary with one of our members family recorded on a panal. The site is being used for Wedding photos on the inside on the blank sandstone walls . A Muslim wedding was using the Cemetary ,with piles of Pizza Boxes on the benches and a Total lack of respect to the Fallen . Neadless to say they were evicted with no doubt as to our feelings towards them . This is not a theme park Lovely well maitained cemetery.
