Very slow service in the cafe. The site is a collection of houses used by miners in the long-defunct coal mines. You can see the *outside* of many houses, but the only one that you are allowed *inside* has been gutted and filled with modern displays. You are not allowed up to the upstairs level or down to the basement. You have almost no idea which spaces were originally kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms, etc., so you get almost no idea of what these houses were like to live in. Very interesting place to discover the mining heritage with exhibition space, with many interactive areas, gardens etc. We can experience a unique journey through time and space to meet the people who shaped the outstanding landscapes of the mining basin. Scale models, interactive games, audio-visual content and hands-on features enable visitors of all ages to discover mining heritage in a simple and fun way. Christine led us on an experiential yarn that allowed us to understand how the entire landscape of the region has been forever changed by coal-mining.
