I highly recommend a here. Very thought provoking experience visiting the Ulster Memorial Tower. It has a very good miniature museum inside the cafe. Run by a lovely friendly lady. Lest we forget 🇬🇧 🇫🇷 We stopped here on the last day of our on October 19, 2024, and boy were we impressed!! Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the Ulster Division and brought the site to life with the personal stories he shared. The fee is by donation and our group of 8 gladly handed over 80 euros as money welk spent. takes rougly 1.5 hours. The Ulster Tower is a must when visiting the Somme. This magnificent structure and memorial is situated less than a mile from the village of Thiepval and the Thiepval memorial. For me as I walk the battlefields during Remembrance for the Poppy appeal, the walk from Thiepval to the Tower is a must , fantastic views across the valley towards the Beaumont Hamel memorial Park and can the Connaught and Mill Road Cemeteries en route, the Connaught being on the roadside a short distance from Ulster Tower and Mill Road up a farm track again a short distance from the Tower. Lest we forget ❤️ 🌹 Had a great here and a guided of the Woods with the wonderful Rocky who gave very clear and full explanations of what had happened there in 1916. Little museum and cafe are also excellent and good value. The Ulster Memorial Tower is a beautifully peaceful place for anyone that has a connection to the history of the region. The visitor's experience is enhanced by the wonderful hospitality of Rocky & Jo, their enthusiasm of and knowledge of the history is second to none and Rocky's of Thiepval Wood is fantastic. Could not recommend a more highly! Waited a lifetime to be able to make this and it exceeded all my expectations. the Tower memorial and museum but do not miss the opportunity to Thiepval Wood (11.00 & 3.00 daily - no charge but donations requested) Resident guide Rocky a wealth of information about the 1st July assault with individual stories of bravery and sacrifice. Walking up Mill Road to the cemetery in the footsteps of those attacking the Schwaben Redoubt brings home the task facing the young men and boys of the Somme. An eye opener - nothing you will have read or heard can match the reality that the provides. A beautiful monument to visit. The true hidden gem is the of Thiepval Wood with Rocky. The Wood has a number of historically accurate trenches which have been excavated and preserved beautifully. Tours run at either 11am or 3pm. Jo, Rocky's wife, runs the cafe and has the most beautiful smile. Stop off and enjoy the views of the Somme front line.
