Agree with many of the other comments on here. Feels like it might be aimed at a particular demographic which we were not. It's very cramped. Too to take a shot in most places. They could have halved the number of and it would have been a much more enjoyable experience. There were only three of us and we couldn't stand together to play any hole. Some if the graffiti was pretty graphic too. Thankfully this passed over my young son. The toilets were terrible too. It's a nice idea and some of the were nicely and uniquely themed. But others were just too hard and that it wasn't a particularly fun experience. For full transparency, I booked through groupon, and for two people to play one round, it cost about £8. Which for what it was I felt was value. It is small, I couldn't imagine doing the with a full group. The two of us went when it was very quiet, so we managed to get around the course with ease. The decor is too be expected. They have attempted to make it urban and eclectic. When we went, we were given the opportunity to collect our scores on mobile devices, and no pencil or paper was offered. I wonder if this is to deter people from writing on the walls. The drinks are pricey and personally I would avoid, especially if you are going elsewhere for food after. I would visit again to do the other course but only if in a small and using a voucher. We were on a stag do in Chelmsford, and after realising Boom Battle Bar was fully booked (rookie error – we didn’t book, obviously), we turned to old Google and stumbled across Bck Yrd Golf. Gave them a call and they said, “Yeah, just come on down.” That should’ve been our first red flag. No signage. Literally none. Had to ask a random bloke outside the building if we were even in the right place. Up some sketchy warehouse stairs, we ended up on this rooftop bar that looked like it was built mid-COVID with leftover timber and vibes. One barman. Just one. Poor bloke might’ve been on his first ever shift, bless him – but with 15 thirsty lads, it took forever to get a round in. And don’t even ask about how long it took to sort the actual out. Let’s just say, by the time we started playing, we were sober and slightly agitated. Golf itself? Look… creatively tragic. It’s a DIY, slightly wobbly, plywood maze of mini-golf madness. The floors creaked like they were auditioning for a haunted house, the were tighter than a Ryanair seat, and it’s basically impossible to play properly – so we just gave up and started lobbing balls at each other. Decor was cool, I’ll give them that. Very “post-apocalyptic junkyard meets Shoreditch loft”. But then it got weird… About two in, this creepy bald guy with a DSLR 📸 just appears out of nowhere snapping photos like it’s a nature doc. No hello, no explanation – just pure serial killer energy. Look, if you’re thinking about going here for a cute date or some wholesome fun… don’t. If you want to get pissed with your mates, already be drunk before you arrive, and don’t care about the – maybe. But even then, bring your own drinks or wait until next Christmas to get served. 2 stars – one for the decor, one for the unintentional comedy. That’s it. The name says it all, could have been created in a backyard but the are a great challenge. We did both and the harder of the two definitely has a great ending! Do not book. Filthy, dangerous and cramped. We hosted our son’s birthday at the crazy venue last weekend. The had lots of fun and especially loved the ball pit. There are two available with plenty of funny and/or surprising features. For young that’s amazing! Special thank you to Tyler who was very accommodating and flexible esp. that we had some neurodiverse with us. We shall come back again. We had booked with a 3rd company and wasn't sure what to expect but as a family of 4 we really enjoyed ourselves for a summer activity. The 2 men working (forgot names) were so chilled and friendly which gave the experience a nice feel. super fun my were really engaged which was nice. We had cocktails which were delicious 😋 huge space which is filled nicely with other bits to do (football pool, punch machine outside area etc). Overall I couldn't fault this place and would definitely recommend for the price and customer service. idea, really ran down and neglected now. Overpriced for what you get. Wow, where do I start! Very and very poorly maintained. Some of the don’t make a lot of sense. I can give a shout out to the though - very friendly and helpful while doing an impossible job! I went here a few months ago, was expecting atleast an hour or actual golf, instead was shuffling around like an indiot and still completed both in 30 minutes. wasnt worth the £40 or dirty bats they hand you. Upon finishing, this is where my problem is, i saw a couple sitting upstairs in the bar vaping. They must have been 15 at most, kick them out, no wonder the place was empty on a saturday night if thats the cliantell you have already. dissapointing The was very friendly. My partner and i did both of the courses, which ran us £28 in total (despite there being a student discount, there's no place to select it on the website) and it was definitely not worth the price. I was under the impression that the place was more dedicated to mini due to the website, but it actually does several other things at the venue (not sure how well, but cant be that good). The were super cramped, the two of us could barely fit. It also felt like the place had not been maintained since it opened - there were things ripped off the walls and staples pointing outward (i actually cut myself leaning on the wall), everything was made out of plywood and plaster that were chipped and falling apart. The on inclines were way too steep, balls regularly jumping out over the top and nearly hitting us back because we didnt expect them to fly out like that. I wouldnt recommend coming here, and especially not with kids. A lot of hazards on the floor. I honestly don't know how this place is still open. Maybe the bar venue is fine, but definitely avoid the golf. More Junkyrd not BckYrd What an absolute disappointment. Arriving we were greeted by out of order facilities and empty beer barrels stacked near the lift, I did question whether we had taken a wrong turn. The reception area looked like it was built on the cheap with chipboard everywhere which had barely one coat of pain on it. I appreciate they maybe going for a rough and ready backyard theme but this is just lazy and cheap. Whilst the where polite and friendly when I commented that my putter was bent I was informed that was the best on offer from the 20 or so other putters hanging up. I had booked both course for myself and two children and as soon as we started there were issues. Firstly the design, they have squeezed in 10 in each course, and when I say squeezed I mean it. There was barely any room for the person putting let alone other members. Some of the are quite imaginative but the tight space made some nearly impossible to compete as there wasn't any room to swing a cat let alone a putter, perhaps that's why they are all bent. We carried on making the best of it but to be honest every has issues, from worn out tee off mats, structural issues, and impossible feats try pulling a ball up a straight wall in what looks like the inside of a Sellotape roll. Speaking of which I was amused to see the liberal supply of gaffa tape holding everything together and covering holes. Now on to more serious complaints, in some areas there are physical dangers (see pictures) which are a concern, as well as the protruding screws and woodwork I am more concerned as to why my children found two rogue putters in the ball pit, job they didn't dive in. I did give feedback to the who replied they would fix things as they now know about it but I'm sorry these are not new defects and why the are not inspected daily is surprising. Then on the way out trying to be polite to the people playing pool we went around the other side of the table to be met with the wire for the table to hung mid air and plugged in the other side of the wall, some would say this is a trip hazard for a venue that serves alcohol. In conclusion the idea of the place is great but the execution and maintenance leaves a lot for conversation. Shocked at the state of the site. Personally I thought It was disgusting and needed a clean, but even worse of all there were big boards of plywood left on the stairwell where children could have touched and fallen on them . There was also electrical equipment left on the stairwell. A large metal pole rested up against the side, if falls could strike a person easily. The actual area was dirty, black bags up at the windows, everything all crammed together, people hitting balls far too close to each other with no safety in place. So dangerous! Equipment not working properly, no management on site to sort any issues. They are taking peoples money when equipment is not working and refusing refunds. Really poor practice. We went as a of 5 (2adults, 2 older teens and a child) and we played the 2nd course. First of all, this shouldn’t be marketed as a family friendly activity or even one for a larger group. There is NO room at all. The 1st you can literally only have 1 person entering at a time, it’s a hard to complete for younger players and as we had a start directly after us we felt rushed through. There is no room to move about, you can’t even stand next to each other on most of the holes. It felt very enclosed and stressful trying to play on the limited space. One of the is using your hands to pull strings to raise the ball up a wall into a hole, it was impossible for our younger child to do and just seemed like a pointless addition. The recommended the 2nd course to us but I wish we had been given the option to have a Quick Look at both to decide as upon looking at photo reviews since I believe course 1 may be a bit more suited to younger players despite saying the 2nd course was. It’s also not well signposted once you are in there on how to actually get through the bar to the backyard golf. It said no under 18’s after 8pm so I thought going at 5pm would be ok however you have to walk through 2 parts of the bar up to the 3rd level which wasn’t great for our younger child to have to walk though. I would say if you have younger children definitely go much earlier in the day unless you want to walk through the rowdy 18yr olds drinking and doing activities on the 2nd level. Overall it’s not a bad place, the themes were a lot of fun and it was quirky and would probably be for a couple of adults playing. It’s definitely not family themed and not suitable for more than 2/3 players max. We were back outside in a disappointing 25mins which felt like such a waste of money (original cost of playing seemed very reasonable but not for 25 minutes). Unfortunately we, along with everyone else at the had a very miserable experience. The technology failed on every hole. The were dull and repeated and lacked any need for effort. The atmosphere was flat. We had been previously been and it was great but since the change its a pointless and unenjoyable activity.
