Ho visitato il castello di Capua la prima domenica del mese e ho potuto beneficiare della visita guidata e dell’ingresso gratuito. Ho apprezzato molto la spiegazione e ammirato gli splendidi affreschi molto ben conservati. All’interno è possibile fare fotografie senza flash e sono presenti alcuni sintetici pannelli esplicativi. All’ultimo piano del palazzo sono presenti i anche i servizi igienici. Nel centro storico di Gambatesa è stata per me una vera sorpresa questo castello di struttura medievale che al suo interno ospita stupendi affreschi rinascimentali ad opera di Donato da Copertino e i suoi discepoli, commissionati dall'allora proprietario Vincenzo di Capua. Le diverse sale hanno diversi temi e gli affreschi, recentemente restaurati raffigurano paesaggi, scene mitologiche e allegoriche e sono veramente molto belli. Al piano superiore vi sono elementi di arredo e quadri messi successivamente. Dal Castello inoltre si ha un'ampia veduta sulla vallata sottostante fino al lago di Occhiuto, bacino artificiale al confine con la Puglia. Visita bellissima! Questo castello è un piccolo gioiellino da visitare nel nostro bellissimo Molise, ad un prezzo irrisorio aggiungo. Interni con affreschi meravigliosi. Menzione speciale per la gentilezza degli operatori, a partite dagli addetti alla biglietteria fino al disponibilissimo e preparatissimo signore che ci ha magistralmente guidato attraverso la storia del castello e al significato degli affreschi. Una visita consigliatissima! Is it worth a visit ? Definitively if you're in the close neighborhood. We drove more than one hour to get there and we were left with a complete sense of unfulfillment. The visit takes about 20 minutes. The surroundings are very beautiful, one can enjoy the view from the castle itself. However we then headed for lunch and it was a complete disaster. Everything was closed and the few places that were actually opened were packed. Make sure you book a table well in advance if you come from a distance and intend to have lunch. We had to skip it, unbelievable in Italy. This is not a tourist oriented city (valid also for the Molise region in general...) Una delle molte bellezze d'arte del Molise, al confine con la Puglia, storico castello con panorami di una stupenda campagna, perfettamente restaurato e con magnificenti sale affrescate nel 1550 da Donato da Cupertino. The stories behind the frescoes were explained in great detail, without feeling too overwhelmed. Thank you for the tour! Well worth a visit to see alfresco paintings on wall of the Castello. A very nice surprise. The first floor of the castel (with frescoes) was very beautiful. I liked the friendliness and the attention of the staff. It is worth to make a detour to see the castel and the museum. P.s. the views from the castle are marvellous.
