A nice castle but a bit depressive compared to others I visited :) Once you read the history, you’ll know why :) Impressive 'castle'; note the architectural differences between the front and other sides. Apart from a small but very interesting museum inside (free) the interior is not open for spontaneous visits but there is a short but interesting hike around the castle. Nice small historical museum. You will finde a lot of to learn about Bevern and the region. When we visited, the bigger exhibitions where not active. Very friendly staff The epitome of Weser Renaissance! The architecture of Weserrenaissance Schloss Bevern is a special quality of the Weser area at the time of the late German Renaissance between the Reformation and the Thirty Years’ War. Influenced by the late Northern Italian Gothic period and the early Dutch baroque period, the architectural style of the Weser Renaissance shows some typical details, as for example the "Utluchts", "welsch" gables (decorated curved pediments), octagonal stair towers and ashlar frames with notched patterns (decorating ashlar sandstones). A very pretty building. Good parking. The museum on the groundfloor can be visited for free. The museum holds many interesting objects from the old days and one big room is filled with minerals. The castle chapel can be visited as well. Upstairs special exhibitions take place. When in the neighborhood and if you are interested in historical architecture: visit the castle! Beautiful facade decor. It must have taken a lot of effort to painstakingly color the ornaments on this building, and it needs to be refreshed periodically with as much effort. Very friendly staff and cool place to take a look at. We did found the whole experience a bit small though. Wouldn’t drive too far for it. I liked it a lot. It is situated in a big and green square.
