Plenty to see and do he ran and ran around the big open spaces, having imaginary battles on the ramparts etc. Lovely place will be returning soon. This review relates only to the Cafe at Bolsover Thursday just after August Bank Holiday and was still in school holidays, so you can expect it to be busy but .... What a wait! There is only one till and one member of staff taking orders, payments and making teas & coffees. Despite being (a) 4th in a queue and (b) later 3rd it took over 12 minutes standing waiting for those ahead to be served with large orders of tea & coffee before you could make a straightforward payment for a sandwich or bottle of water. It's polite to wait a turn but be warned ... if it's busy then you could be in for a very long wait. Come on English Heritage you can do so much better! By the way the cafe does have some nice cakes, has some gluten free food including fresh sandwiches and is dog friendly inside and out. The café at Bolsover was a lovely surprise and really added to the visit. It had a great selection of hot and cold food, with fresh sandwiches, cakes, and some tasty local options. The coffee was rich and well made, perfect for a break after exploring the castle. Staff were friendly, efficient, and kept everything clean and well presented. Seating was comfortable with a relaxed atmosphere, and there were even outdoor tables to enjoy the views on a nice day. Prices were fair considering the setting, and portion sizes were generous. A perfect spot to recharge during the day – I’d definitely recommend stopping here when visiting the castle. We're regulars here, and are fortunate we're quite close. Steeped in history and a great place to visit on its own, but include one of their many events (equestrian demonstrations in the riding house are a particular highlight) and it's a spectacular day out. With a good gift shop, and a cafe to boot, it's thoroughly recommended Fascinating historical site with very friendly and knowledgeable volunteers to help make sense of the complicated history. Definitely one of the better preserved English heritage sites in the area - the little is absolutely wonderful! On a good day, the views across the valley to Sutton are spectacular - on a foggy day like today, no such luck but still very worth a visit. Nice place for a visit, well laid out, and lots of good displays. Smaller site, so will only need a couple of hours to get around. But the town is nice too, for a walk before or after the castle. Parking is limited, so used a carparked over the road. The grounds are nice.
