The is freezing cold so you need some time to get used to it, but 100% worth the drive there and the hike is just so refreshing. If you want just the easy part, there is a path that takes you to the crystal clear if the lake, you can have a dip there ! A real hidden gem just an hour drive from Thessaloniki city center. Amazing at a great location of historical significance. A must to Skra village and war museum. Also traditional taverns at Skra offer Grrek traditional recipes. Ideal day tour for lovers and explorers. Lovely small and an area that is well taken care of, even with a few benches in different places. Amazing place in the with lots of shade. The is only 5-10 minutes from where you leave the cars. There are picnic tables and it is definitely worth a and a dip in the icy waters. You can't easily get a good cellphone signal there, but you most likely won't need it in a place like this. There is also a tap with in the parking lot. Very beautiful natural landscape. There is free parking nearby, one has to walk somewhat to get to the stream. Swimming in the lagoon is possible. That is the reason we didn’t swim at the lake where the is but under the bridge at the river. It also has some tables with benches so you can bring some food and sit there if you find any available : ) You can combine your there with some hiking, but we didn’t follow the path so I don’t know how far you can go or what else there is further down the path. A kind of negative thing that I would like to mention is the way to get there. It’s a bid old, because it’s a country and has some turns after passing Axioupoli. So you have to be careful even though you hardly meet any other car. Lastly, if your starting point is Thessaloniki I would not recommend taking the to Polykastro, at least during summer because it’s a two-way street and usually it has traffic due to tourists from Bulgaria, Romania etc. You may take the directly to Axioupoli, or to Goumenissa and then to Axioupoli.
