WORTH EVERY EFFORT Easy to reach by car from Făgăraș... Avrig or even Sibiu... in an area peaceful and quiet... totally unexpensive... I saw it almost by accident and because of an unimaginable curiosity... but I congratulate myself for doing this TOTALLY WORTH IT We were there last saturday around 3pm and the village was empty and so clean and full of flowers! You have a parking near the place and the ticket for aduls its 10lei/pers. Its magical there and if you read the history of this place you will appreciate it even more! Keep in mind that the entrance its not from the front, you will enter the site from the back where you will pay the ticket. Crazy fact: Do you know that the movie “The Nun” was filmed here? I know right? Amaziinng! And only 5 lei to enter! That’s incredible. A place full of history, very well preserved, but still not enough promoted. A place where you can feel the touch of old times, when the monks were building the monastery. A must see place A beautiful and inspiring piece of history. The ruins, the sky, the grass... if you try, you can really imagine what a beautiful this was back in the days. The ticket is very cheap (2 euro) and the entrance is somewhere in the back. There is a fairly large free parking lot just across the street. Inside the courtyard, you can roam on the grass to look at the from multiple angles. Also, there is a free W.C. and a small museum. By the 17th century, the buildings and the church's nave fell into disrepair. Today, the walls of the still bear traces of the basilica with three naves and a transept. Only the eastern wall of the convent building still stands. Despite these destructions, the architectural details, such as the keystone in the chancel showing the crowned Mary, continue to impress. Currently, the chancel and transept are used as an Evangelical Lutheran belonging to the local Saxon community. The church's doorway features Gothic architectural elements, including pointed arches and intricate stone carvings, with a large, circular window above. Inside, the has tall, cylindrical columns and a mix of Gothic and Romanesque architectural elements. At the front is a large, ornate altar with intricate decorations and a chandelier hanging from the ceiling. Tall, narrow stained-glass windows flank the altar. The interior ceiling features ribbed vaults painted in alternating colors, creating a visually striking pattern. A large pipe organ, adorned with intricate gold decorations, is situated on a balcony supported by columns with gold accents. Adjacent to the is a museum exhibition building displaying traditional clothing and artifacts. Several mannequins are dressed in traditional attire, including a woman in a long dress with a headscarf, a man in a white shirt and black hat, and another figure in black clothing with intricate embroidery. The room has wooden floors, walls, and ceilings, and various textiles and informational plaques are displayed. One of the textiles on the wall reads, "Wir glauben all an einen Gott" ("We all believe in one God"), a Lutheran hymn. In addition to the monastery, Cârța boasts a rich cultural heritage, with traditional Saxon houses and well-preserved historical buildings. The local community takes pride in maintaining the village's historical charm, evident in the meticulously cared-for gardens and vibrant floral displays.
