It's become a family tradition to pop over with our daughter and my nephew to ice skate, whilst we soak up the atmosphere in the ice bar upstairs. They had a live band and the pair were great. Overcrowded, ques too long to get in and the ice had melted, so impossible to skate on, everyone falling over. It's meant to smooth ice, no groves and definitely not so wet. Wouldn't go again I cannot stress enough how concerned I am about the safety of this ice – I would strongly advise against bringing children here, or visiting at all. The ice surface is in shocking condition. There are deep cracks, uneven patches, and what looks like melted and refrozen sections that create dangerous bumps and ridges. My 8-year-old tripped on one of these uneven areas and fell hard, scraping their knee badly and hitting their head on the ice. We weren't the only ones – I saw at least three other kids stumble and fall in the same 20-minute period we were there. The safety barriers around the are flimsy and have gaps where a small child could easily slip through. There are no proper padding on the edges near the boards, so anyone who skates into them risks serious injury. To make matters worse, there were barely any members supervising. The few we saw seemed distracted and didn't intervene when some older skaters were moving recklessly through areas where young children were trying to learn. There was no first aid station visible, and when we asked for help after our child fell, we had to wait 15 minutes for someone to even bring a basic bandage. The facilities are also dirty and poorly maintained – the changing rooms are damp, and the skate rental area has pairs that are clearly broken or don't fit properly, which only adds to the risk of falls. This place is a hazard waiting to happen. No child – or anyone – should have to risk getting hurt just to go ice skating. Save your money and take your family somewhere that prioritizes safety. Once we had found the entrance we were greeted by a member of who checked our tickets then loudly counted us 1, 2, 3, 4 as she pointed at the turnstile 10 meters away that she wanted us to walk through. Which was pointless as we could walk around it! Then into the absolute chaos of trying to swap their shoes for ice skates, walking around in skates and with no shoes on in a very confined space. Like a little corridor with benches on one side that you had to brave walking to without getting your toes chopped off! Then onto the very wet and bumpy ice rink. Massively overcrowded, no room to move! On the way around we noticed you could get an ice aid for kids, but no around to get one from, just a poor paramedic/first aider advising that they need to queue and wait for a member of to appear. My wife was off the ice for 10-15 mins trying to get them! During the I did see one member of on the ice. What he was supposed to do with that many on there I don’t know. He did scrape up some blood on the ice which was nice to see!! We skated for a while but was not very enjoyable, too many unaccompanied kids with little care for anyone else. We left the ice just before our session finished to try and escape the mad rush at the end. The removing of skates and getting shoes back was very much the same as putting the skates on. A small corridor of space with benches at one side. Then as we are leaving, right by the exit we see the “rules of the ice rink”! What has been a lovely family tradition of at Christmas was turned into a completely awful experience. Won’t be going back there. Horrible experience. Yesterday at around 7pm, my family and I approached the ticket counter politely, but the member was rude and unwelcoming from the start. I asked for two child tickets and said the children were 11 and 13. She told me these required adult tickets and charged £28. Later, I checked the Birmingham website, which clearly states that junior tickets are for children aged 12 and under. When I went back to explain this, instead of handling it professionally, the member accused me of lying and said, “she is not 11.” If she had doubts, she should have raised them calmly at the time rather than overcharging and then making accusations. I even offered to show proof, yet she remained rude and dismissive. This completely ruined the experience. It’s a shame because the inside the were actually very kind and polite. Unfortunately, the behaviour at the ticket counter overshadowed everything. If you want to go ice PLEASE avoid this place at all costs, theres an ice in Solihull which is bigger, longer time and opened all year round. Way too crowded, with no room to skate making it extremely dangerous. You wouldn't be able to stop if someone fell in front of you. Left after 20 minutes and already seen 3 bad injuries. Lockers all out of service. were friendly. Visited at 2pm. For the size of the there are wayyyyyyyyy too many skating. It is genuinely a hazard even if you know how to skate. I was tripped over twice with the aids and ive now injured both knees. You are better off going to the solihull which is much larger. Clearly all they care about it money and not the safety of the customers.
