I've only used the gym here, I thought to give it a try as my membership allows me access to all centres. They have a good variety of equipment. The dumbells go up to a very high weight. However some of the are uncomfortable to use. The chest incline & decline require that ones arms must go back way too far to grip the handles. That's fine if you wish to err on the lighter side & do 20-25 reps but if you wish to go heavier its quite impossible. They do have incline benches, but again, you'd need a spotter to go heavy. Surprisingly they do not have a smith machine as for me that would have been a suitable option. A must in any gym. They do have an awful lot of yet only one lat pulldown. I also regularly use a crosstrainer. In this particular branch the cross trainers are anything but smooth. As you increase the resistance they become unsmooth & they feel as if they are scraping unevenly. Although there are a lot of various machines, for chest & back I prefer to go elsewhere. I suspect whoever equipped the gym was not a seasoned user. The leg machines, on the other hand are brilliant. A good variety indeed & very smooth machines. I do question though why any gym would require 4 squat racks yet no smith machine?? This gym is FIRE!!! To think I actually avoided joining it for a while because I visited a few years back and it was small and dated, but then I discovered they had a refurb and it was taken on by Everyone Active. The place is amazing! I'm experienced gym-goer and it has everything I need, free weights sections with machine weights, and then a floor, and also another floor for pin machine weights and stretching area. There is a pool, a sauna, and a separate hall/studio for classes. Nice changing with lockers and showers. They also have a cold shower on pool side next to the sauna. It's a great mixture of young, middle aged and elderly. So if you want to avoid the 'bro gyms' then this is the best option in Swadlincote for you. The staff are really nice too, they actually say hello and greet you when they see you, and they are always willing to drop what they are doing to help you out. Last minute swim with grandchildren pool very quiet (thankfully) facilities seem to have had a spruce up though it is probably 2 yrs since I last went. Changing clean and tidy not always the case in the past. As it was a family swim they had the floats out so plenty of opportunity to keep the kids entertained and get some swim teaching in. Good membership prices. Only given 4 stars as they don't have enough in the gym since the refurb. 8 treadmills, 3 cross trainers and 2 bikes isn't a lot. Do have to wait when its busy. The showers in the wet side changing are freezing cold. Would be better if they were warm straight away, rather then having to let them run for ages to get them warm. Half the changing and lockers don't lock properly Facilities are good and the gym equipment is amazing, but had to give two star due to over subscribed gym, people cueing for benches, and school children in free weight area. The gym is great if you’re into weights as the majority of the gym is all new weight machines! :) There is a member of staff often cleaning the and mopping the floors in the gym. However, there is only a very small amount of equipment (8 treadmills, 3 cross trainers, about 4 rowers). As there aren't many, they are very busy, so you’re lucky to get on a machine! So not a great gym if you want to do cardio! The area for stretching off allows for about 3 people, so a lot of the time you can’t stretch off. The wet side changing are still disgusting 🤢 even after the refurb. The toilets are gross with wee and toilet roll everywhere and broken toilet seats. The floors are gross with muddy water everywhere. It generally smells like wee in there. I avoid at all costs. Any time I’ve needed to ring because they’ve sent me an email claiming I’ve not shown up to a class (even though I have and signed in) they don’t answer. Why have a phone number if nobody answers it? Only reason I am a member is because it’s cheap. To improve they really need to: increase the number of machines, more room in the stretching area to actually stretch off, hygiene of changing and answering the phone! Fabulous I go 5 mornings a week facility’s are brilliant. Showers are always warm .
