What an amazing, stunning, clean , modern, beautiful place. The hotel is smartly designed and decorated. The restaurant food was equally good. We enjoyed the Trauffer tradition of cows, fun and everything Swiss. We will be back to stay longer and take advantage of the beautiful surrounding nature and hiking trails Highly recommend to support this beautiful Swiss hotel Danke! Absolutely worth the visit, so well done. Highly recommend the cow-carving activity, budget at least an hour to and your cow, super cool souvenir to take home. We ended our visit with a delicious plate of burger and fries, and a soft-ice for desert, super yummie! a total rip off. they charge 15 fr. to entrer the "museum", which is in fact nothing than an extension of the shop. a very nice extension, great design and exhibition, but it's done in 15-20 min (even with kids). you'll pay 15 more to have your kid their cow, and around 30 to purchase a properly painted one. it would be fine if they'd charge 5 fr or deduce the price of the entrance from any purchase, but they don't, so it's a rip off Would recommend if you want to your own cow. The “museum” part is very small, even reading almost all of the text, it took me 15-20 min, the most interesting part for me was the steps from the block of wood to the cow. The shop is very expensive, I know they’re handmade, but even tiny figures cost 30+ or even 40+ CHF in some cases. I decided to make my own for 35 CHF (worth it!) although do note that buying the kind of cow I made would be cheaper than making it. But the painting and carving was fun, even though it was quite challenging. Some people say you need an hour for this, but I disagree. You need about two hours to and the cow properly. I came an hour before the closing time, and luckily the employees allowed me to make one, but I did feel pressured to finish it. And learning a new skill like carving is extra hard when you’re rushing! The painting was also a bit challenging because the was watery and the brushes were old so hard to be precise (I expected an acrylic like paint, but it was a lot more runny). If I had more time, I would have liked being more creative with the design, like mixing my own color and making a design. Instead I just used a ready color and copied the design from one of the numerous example cows. Overall it was very fun, if a bit stressful, and also I loved the rainbow cows display. I know this museum seem to be quite family focused, but I would not recommend the carving activity for children or even younger teenagers, as you could get hurt and frustrated. Instead I would advise all non-adults to do only the painting part. Thank you to the employees, especially the kind carving teacher. ~ V Such a cool place to visit especially with kids. They could and their own wooden cow or any other figures there at a very affordable price. The place is very clean and baby/kids/family friendly. The toilet is equipped with changing table and also spacious enough for handicapped. We went with our 9months old with stroller and we had no issue on entering with the help of the receptionist that helped us opened the entrance door. We didn’t have time to our own wooden cow since we went almost 4pm and after we we need to wait about 2hours till we could our name on it. Hence we bought the ready made wooden cow and engrave our daughter’s name on it. Engraving for each side is just CHF10 and the wooden cow cost is depending on the size of your choice. The one we bought was CHF22 each. You could easily get the price for entrance and all the information needed before you go at their website and for parking they have more than enough parking lots nearby. You just have to walk a bit max 5mins (depending on your walking speed). Well recommended! Such a pleasant experience. Definitely visit this place again. NOT FOR PEOPLE WITHOUT KIDS OR WHO DON'T WANT TO PAINT/CARVE A COW. The entry to the "museum" was 15 CHF per person. I went with my whole family not expecting the museum to be only 2 small rooms of things aimed towards children. It was all cute, but not worth 15 CHF as an adult. This place is great for small children though. Then if you want to and your own figure, it is an extra 35 CHF, or 15 CHF to your own pre-carved figure. I really wanted to my own, so I was fine with the total 30 CHF experience, but my 3 family members essentially wasted a total of 45 CHF coming in with me. They have a great terrace and restaurant, so they went and had a beer while they waited for me to finish. Those areas do not require an entry fee, so if you have members of your party that do not want to or their own figurine, they can wait for you at the restaurant or terrace. The concept is cute, with the slides in the room and painting the wood. However it is expensive for that activity. But the biggest downfall were the people working. We as foreigners felt extremely uncomfortable as the staff were very rude and made it very clear they did not really want to service us. From calling before arriving, to ordering food, and asking for an extra pillow (which we never received) If you are not from the area I would maybe think twice before booking a stay. Also if you are a light sleeper you hear every sound. Breakfast was awful. The hockey putting was fun and different. If you have time to spend in Brienz especially with kids, this place might be ideal. Entrance fee is 15chf (not really worth imo). Cow painting is additonal fee as well. But the kids enoyed it. It has a small cafe onsite as well.
