In lissos you can take a swim and before and after enjoy the trail which is part of the european hikimg trail E4 Awsome trek, 60-90min one way and around 250m altitude each way. You couldndona round way which is about 4h, but we skipped that. archeological site at the end and a rough to cool down. Highly recommend this trek. I would give 6 stars if I could. It’s an amazing varying walk. You have gorges, you have plains, you have the sea, you have a little forest. Great hike, very easy and with an amazing view! Highly recommend! This is a great ending to a we did (part of the E4)from Paleochora to Sougia. This amazing path follows the shore first before it climbs to the ancient town of lissos and descends through the Lissos gorge. It will take you a day if you don't rush and enjoy this amazing natural beauty gute Schuhe an und auf geht’s durch eine traumhafte Landschaft A very goes from Sougia to Lissos. This also takes you through the short Lissos gorge. It takes a while to get to Sougia from the north coast. We came by car from our hotel in Stalos near Chania and the drive took almost 2 there and 2 back. The itself takes at least 3 there and back. But with a bit of luck you can be back faster if you happen to catch a boat back to Sougia in Lissos. Sougia is a very pleasant little village where I think you can also spend a whole holiday. There are a few tavernas, hotels and holiday apartments here and a few shops. In addition, there is a pebble and delightful nature. The goes from the village in a westerly direction along the to the harbour. Here you follow the signs through the Lissos gorge. But you have to pay attention immediately at the first rocks: they are very slippery! You soon reach the with an enormous overhanging rock. If you want to continue walking to the excavations in Lissos, you have to look out and take a path up the mountain on the left. It is an easy climb to the plateau. You have a view of the coast here. When the bay of Lissos comes into view, a slightly steeper descent begins. It is not very difficult, but you have to pay attention with every step. When you are in Lissos, you can see a very Greek Orthodox chapel with wall paintings. Next to it you will find the "Temple of Asclepius" (Aesculapium), which dates from the 3rd century BC. Only the mosaic floor with images of animals and geometric patterns was only laid by the Romans 200 years later. Further on you will see a theatre and a little further you will come to a second Greek Orthodox chapel from the 14th century. Lissos was only excavated in 1957-58. A remarkable number of statues were discovered here, which you can now admire in the Archaeological Museum in Chania. As mentioned, you can be lucky and a boat will arrive to take passengers to Sougia. The cost is only €6 per person excluding any tips and the transfer takes about 20 minutes. Otherwise you can back the same way you came. A amazingly to the ancient ruins of the town Lissos , located near the village of Sougia , on the south west corner of Crete! A short of one and a half hour (1h 30m) one way , worth the effort! path, amazing landscape , specially in spring time . During summer , hotter temperatures make it a bit harder but you can reward your self with a tour through the ruins of the old town and a refreshing swim at the sea! Hiking back is not necessary , while there is possibility of a taxi boat for a amount of money! Very easy canion ...around a 3 hour to and from Sougia to Lissos. One of the most hikes we’ve had with my wife. Samaria was closed due to heavy wind so it was option B. The in the end was very refreshing too. Great experience, highly recommend it to from Sougia to Lissos. You can also up to the church of Agia Ekatherini and return via this pretty gorge. Went on a Sougia - Lissos with my partner, took us about 3 one way (took a lot of pictures) and about an hour when going back. Pretty easy route, a bit of climbing and descent, mostly rocky terrain. hike. Managed to observe a huge flock of bee-eaters, among other interesting birds. Well worth a visit. Bring snacks and loads of water when going here over the hills and in a ending to a natural of Lissos. Mostly quite easy, some moderate ascends in the middle and decend at the end. As said in other reviews, takes about 1-1,5h (one way). If you don't want to back, you can take a boat from Lissos (at 13.30 and 15.30, journey time 10 min and the price 5 e / person.). Or you can take a boat from Sougia to Lissos and then do the from Lissos to Sougia. I would say that doing the starting from Sougia is easier as you get to ascend in the shadow and it the ascend is less steep this way. This is a also when it is hot, as there is a lot of shadow on the route. Note that there are no services at Lissos beach, just a fountain in a resting area close to the beach. Sougia has several restaurants and cafes as well as some shops. Really through to Lissos archaeological site and beach. It’s only about 3.3 km / 2 miles but there are some difficult ascents and descents mixed in there. But also a really on the plateau that is mostly flat for ~1 km. nicely marked trails so you won’t get lost and scenic views all around.
