However it’s quite spectacular drive up the castle. The tour itself is around 1 hour long, we had it in Spanish. We learnt a lot about the history of the area, the castle, the renovations and local fauna. We also got to explore the entire castle. Visiting feels very different from the usual tourist attraction. First, there is the remote location, surrounded by mountains as far as the eye can see. Everything is part of the vast estate. And there is driving there over six kilometres of gravel road through valley and around steep mountain side, passing through cork oak forest. It is a mini adventure just getting there and well worth the trip. Forget manicured castles with hundreds of tourists and gift and coffee shops. This is just raw and fascinating to explore. Loved it.
