As always, the entertainment was brilliant, with 2 distinct music acts both of which were great. "Food" was advertised but what was on the "menu" was snacks at best, not a meal. What we ordered took a long to arrive, was burnt and greasy and generally unpleasant. When advised on returning the plates I was thanked for letting them know but nothing more. Historically, we were NEVER left waiting outside until 6pm, the doors were always open on arrival and you can get food and drink before the music started. Food used to be guest vans, like Pizza, or burger meals from kitchen, and we never had a bad one. 🙏 for return of "proper" food and not just nachos, chips and onion rings, oh and a bean chilli. day but not enough staff to keep outside tables clear and no obvious place to take used items other than serving counter. The food is very reasonable but the isn't great, and it's definitely not as nice as when they used to serve a local roaster (Baristocracy) when they first opened up a few years back. Disappointed with my corned beef pie tho - always a favourite of mine but this was cold, full of carrot which made it sweet and an excess of pepper. Chips and gravy were similarly cold. Friend’s toastie was lovely she said, but we’d upgraded to get her chips at £2 and she had no more than 5, with salad and tortilla chips on the plate. We’d assumed the chips replaced the chips? Not portion sizes for the upgrade price we thought. Think I’ll stick to drinks if I again. Especially at +£33 for pie, toastie, a tea, a and two small tray bakes. I have been a few times in the past and love this place, and the shop. I also head to chopwell woods and thornley woodland. While it's that it's promoting local Artists and authors in their shop, the land of oak and iron has brought with it lots of people. I'm local to the and grew up around Winlaton Mill. I spent a lot of around the Derwent when I was a kid and feel that the amount of people that now have spoiled this once quiet place to appreciate nature. I have mixed feelings on this one, it's promoting nature and bringing business to the local area. However at the same it's damaged the once gem of the area. I can't imagine the locals on the main street being too happy with it either. Worth a but I think my childhood memories and admiration for the nature of the has spoiled it for myself.
