A wonderful spot even on a nasty day. The toilet and kettle facilities were very welcome. Spotted a Harris Hawk and a Marsh Harrier so worth the walk out. I love the combination of walking and driving alongside the Solway Firth Estuary to explore all it has to offer. It's rich farming, and various buildings make it unique too. The sights and sounds of nature are priceless. If you're there for a good sunset you won't be disappointed. Visited in July 2025 and, whilst the is located in the far reaches, it is well worth the effort. You follow the Solway coast road and the is inland from the coastline. The RSPB boasts high profile bird species, such as Osprey & Marsh Harrier, one should not overlook the wide range of Dragonfly, Carter's & Damselfly species that you should lookout for too. Included in these is the rare whiteface darter. The is mixed, open scrub and wetlands with small patches of woodland & swamp carr. The was a farm that the RSPB bought about 30 years ago and has managed since. The has several routes of varying lengths, utilising the old farm tracks and also well maintained, clear cut grass paths too. There are a few hides on the site, while there is also an Osprey 'post' that a pair have used but no successful fledglings yet. The also has a small information centre, drinks 'room' & toilets by the car park too. Whilst it does not charge an entry or car park fee it does seek donations & is certainly worth supporting. Got distracted collecting blackberries but a beautiful spot This was a great day out with the family. Managed to see some rare birds, which was fantastic. The path down to the main hide is pram and wheelchair friendly, albeit bumpy! There is an onsite area that has self-serve hot drinks, and there are picnic benches also. A very beautiful spot, would recommend for anyone day out, bring some lunch with you. Very friendly and helpful staff at the visitor centre. The is fascinating with a mix of fields, peat bog, and views onto the estuary. Summer will be particularly good for dragonflies and other inverts. Winter will be amazing for many thousands of geese and other migratory birds. The trails are well marked, and mostly broadwalk, especially across the bog. However there are sections that could be uneven and muddy. Lovely understated - visited on a quiet day when only one other car in car park. Enjoyed watching Marsh Harriers from the hide and Kestrels hunting over the field. Hoped we'd catch sight of an Osprey that had been spotted the last couple of days before we visited but not to be! Facilities are well kept and we appreciated the opportunity to have self serve coffee in the visitors room. Very well developed rspb on the solway coast. A very diverse range of both large and small from swans and herons to Robins and other garden with lots in between, including the odd raptor. You may also come across deer, hares, foxes and a diverse bug life. Several well marked walks with well built hides. Great facilities in the main building with lots of information on current sightings and toilet facilities. A donation the the car park is appreciated with a suggested three pounds. A beautiful nature right along the Solway, can be difficult to access without access to a vehicle but it's well worth it because of the amazing scenery. Depending on when you visit you'll see a huge variety of wildlife ranging from insects/pollinators, deer, various and lots of fungi, which is perfect to see around this time of year! (Autumn), there are 3 hides situated along the main which can be perfect to shelter from bad weather while watching for wildlife! Depending on the weather, wellies or waterproof boots are reccomended since alot of the is through muddy paths. A wide variety of scrapes, ponds and ancient peat bog moss areas means a wide variety of wild life, from Lizards & butterflies to of prey & waders. Very hot on the day of visit, so most wildlife sheltering in the shade and not being active! Things of interest year round if you walk around the whole and along their boardwalk over the peat bog moss. Beautiful little reserve. We visited on a winter day and paths were quite muddy. But they did warn you of this with plenty of signage. Routes were also well marked out with a few hides dotted along the way. There is also a self serve cafe with toilets, but we decided to go eat elsewhere. We will be in the area again in April, so are excited to visit in the spring!
