Well, last week we finally managed to en route to Dumfries. Easy to find. Parking was ample. A short walk, and you're on the grounds. We're well versed on tours, so these days we just the shops. He was planning on returning to buy a full sized bottle, but turned out to not be quite to his taste. I picked up another of my sought after pin badges. Woo hoo. Another one to the collection. We tasted five whiskies: three unpeated and two peated. It was definitely one of the best tours I've ever had at a distillery. We both took the tasting bottle set option, we have 4 small tasting bottles neatly boxed, they seem too good to crack open. We’ll worth a visit. Took a 1836 Tour. Was lucky to have a 1-to-1 in the morning with Alistair, my guide. He took time to explain the history and answers many of my questions. Would highly recommend having this 1836 if time permits for the historical understanding of the "young" distillery. Simply put, this place is fantastic. The buildings are amazing and even on a very blustery Saturday morning the idyllic setting was fab. The breakfast was superb, one of the best breakfasts I've ever had, the bacon steak was delicious. You’ll see a working where you’re right in the middle of it, no holding you back behind rails and ropes. The guides themselves are (thank you Joe) with really great knowledge and enthusiasm. Refreshments and lunches are in the coffee shop, but the term is an understatement with a very tempting menu from their chefs.
