The place is great, a bit retro but very charismatic. I tried 5 times Fish & in Carlisle in 5 days and this was the best. Clean operation environment, nice service, nothing to complain about. Good parking options. We will come again. Driven past johns plaice many times, finally got to sit in for cod and and mushy peas. It was all lovely, can't recall having a better fish and meal anywhere. Service is friendly, food comes up quick. I also had a thick chocolate milkshake. Better than McD's 😋 Price is ok, 20 quid each. A handy stop off for a quality chip shop… This place is quirky but that’s why I like it, it really feels somewhat like an old American style diner - it could be because I somewhat remember it as a Little Chef but there’s just something that feels nostalgic about Johns Plaice. As soon as we entered, we were greeted by smiling waitresses who showed us to a table and brought us menus promptly, the menus by the way are huge! There’s a wide range of food here, not just fish and chips! I ordered a ham roll with and gravy, my partner ordered an egg mayo sandwich with and gravy, she got told there was no egg mayo left so she went for a tuna sandwich instead. The food was all really tasty, big portion sizes too! My ham roll was filled with thick, good quality ham and the bread was soft, my and gravy were good too - just very filling! My partner enjoyed her food too and we both left with happy bellies after a good feed on our way home. There’s ample parking here and they also offer takeaway which is great for if you just need a quick bite. Great chippy. Had dinner tonight snap everything was perfect. We haven't been in years but already planning to come back. Top notch chippy. Absolutely fabulous food,top of the premier league of restaurants……and so clean too….The staff are amazing and so polite Inside is very run down and grubby, Very rude staff, food wasn't the best and when I went to pay I nearly fainted. 3 of us had sausage and and it came to £49.00. As usual a superb pair of meals. It’s so easy to drop off the main road and take a pit stop. Fast & efficient service, the food was piping hot. Based on other Fish & Chip shops in Cumbria, eat in or take away, for the quality of food it is good value. We got fish and for two to take away. The fish was a generous portion, freshly cooked with nice flaky meat and crispy batter. The also appeared to be home cut and were cooked perfectly. An excellent traditional chip shop convinient for travellers to and from the west of Carlisle.
