This is a lovely area for hiking with many trails and numerous options for circular walks. You will find mature woodland and wild horses roaming the moors. The name apparently refers to a murder which took place in the 1700s but happily it's a much more pleasant place than the name suggests! Parking here is free. Lovely patch of the Quantocks, with wild Exmoor ponies wandering free, like they do in The New Forest (but these a little more normal horse sized, though still fairly small). And these ones are wonderfully glossy too. Walks abound around, but a lot of bracken in the summer. Nice bit of woodland to have a little in 😁 the trees have a creepy vibe about them in the winter months. Can't wait to explore some more A great place to walk. Very quiet, not many other walkers around so it feels secluded. The route took us on a 4 mile circular route with a beautiful picnic spot with large picnic tables and camping fire pits. There's also a toilet block half way around. It's parking too which makes it even better. Lots of animals including cows, sheep and wild horses. Walking boots or good trainers would suffice. Good coverage from the rain under the tree canopy. Nice quiet place to the dog. Wooded & open areas. Lots of parking around & large area to around in. Note there are wild animals roaming eg horses ! Recommended to keep dogs on lead due to birds nesting etc Lovely place to have a with family and dogs. Plenty trails to suits most. Done a nice little loop of the Quantocks and stopped by the Plough inn on the way back for a bite! Gorgeous walking spot. Whether you want forests, views of the sea, or a vast open space it’s all here. You’ll see plenty of roaming sheep, horses and other wildlife. We enjoyed our sunset here very much. Must see!
