It was great to see a big eruption in 2002 Wonderful hike, be sure to bring warm clothes and anti-wind jackets because if it’s windy you’ll freeze to death! The trail is quite easy (considering we are on a volcano!) but you can also climb onto solid lava flows and enjoy the multiple craters everywhere. We started our hike from the north entrance parking fees 3€ all day . Toilet available on site , souvenir boutiques and coffee snack stores . The hike is just fantastic we did it with a guide ; some are available on site but I will advise to book in advance as it is very popular Unbelievable experience with a jeep tour and extensive hiking around the summit of Etna. With our "private" guide Silvo (#etnaoutdoor) we went by foot up to the 2002 eruption area. He told us so much about it, and by foot you see and almost feel what happened. Go see the photo/film museum at the parking lot. Very beautiful, definitely worth going to. Even if you don't want to spend a lot of money you can just hire a guide and walk the rest. Bizarre but amazing landscapes. It's quite cold so pack a jacket if you intend exploring. Closed when we arrived at 6pm, but there was plenty to see. And some very creepy abandoned houses 10 minutes from the summit. Perfect horror movie venue!
