This is an entrance (built by Arabs) to Taormina. From there begins a commercial and highly touristic street with tourist prices in both shops and restaurants. The only important attraction of the city is the ancient Greek theater which needs protection and maintenance. “The gate provide access to the heart of Taormina, the most beautiful part of history and visited the city.” This gate is the entrance to the old town located to the north. It was inaugurated by Ferdinand I of the two Sicilies/ Ferdinand IV of Bourbon. Tourists don't always walk all the way from gate to gate, but they should pay attention and do so. The shops on the main road between the gates charge at a tourist price. You can get dinner like pizza to eat and/or a glass of wine nearby. There's a cooking class somewhere around here too. Total lack of personality and did not show any appreciation for us. Probably can find a better experience with the huge number of restaurants in this town. Food was okay. Nothing extraordinary but service… not good at all. We wanted risotto instead of pasta and asked if we could change pasta with shrimps for risotto with shrimps. Of course he said sure but never mention the plate was double the price. We ended paying each 35 euros for each plate of risotto. You can find better restaurants in Taormina, very good, an amazing risotto and half the price of this one and with good customer service like Trattoria Tiramisu, that one is a 5 stars We went for the Sicilian cooking class and it was the best decision ever! Paolo was so great! He made sure that we had the best time, he included everyone and was just really fun overall. The dishes turned out delicious and we even got some limoncello and canolli. Thank you😊 Anthony and Paolo - in a word? AMAZING! They make you feel like family from the minute you step in the door and make you never want to leave. Truly. Incredible people, chefs, and teachers. We booked a Sicilian cooking class with them and loved every minute. Thank you for making our first visit in Sicily a truly memorable one! Because my previous review has been deleted i will add it again The food was impeccable, and please teach your staff not to be racist or to treat guest bad based on their appeareance as we were treated by waiting a bit to prepare a table although were other tables ready we were dat at a table close to the bar where the staff had their plates and all. The waiter, please try to show respect no matter if you like your job or not. You have looked at us with bad looks and treat us disrepectful only because we were tourists coming from beach... Please stop acting like this Nevertheless, food was amazing! We signed up for a cooking class with Paulo! It was the best thing we did during our trip, and it was entirely down to how lovely an experience Paulo made it. We learnt how to cook lots of dishes (and importantly eat them after) and it was such a fun experience. The group we were with were lovely and it was a great way to meet people too if you’re a solo traveller. This is a must if you’re staying in Taormina.
