Mais l'ensemble m'a enchanté, ce fut un superbe complément à la visite de la cathédrale. Le tout est accessible gratuitement, l'accueil au musée fut de grande qualité merci à la dame qui m'a reçu. At the center of Tulle the cathedral and cloister harbor some remnants of the vestiges of the 7th century Abbey of Saint Martin (visible in the basement of the church). Today’s cloister is mostly the result of successive (and more and less successful) restorations in the 19th and 20th century. Most interesting historically is the ‘Chapter house’ with some interesting 14th century frescoes and a central vault with chevron design moldings. The west gallery houses the small ‘Musee Du Cloître’ which at the time of our visit only opened its temporary exhibition ‘Poincts en Suspension’ by artist Annie Bascoul. In the leaflet there is also reference to ‘exhibits of local archaeology, art, ethno-history and industrial techniques’. In a way the exhibition embodied much of these, and was a real positive surprise to us. The exhibition is a culmination of different projects supported by the city of Tulle since 2013. Several artists have been invited through residencies to create unique works that will; ‘bear witness to generations to come of the fertile dialogue between historical know-how and contemporary creation’. It was the second time for Annie Bascoul to exhibit her works, the first time at the cloister museum. The artist’s ambition ’is to reveal an idea of beauty which rhymes with dream and poetry and finally provoke an emotion... I want these works to be rare and precious, beautiful and poetic’. We feel she succeeded as the use of material, light, shade and space really augmented the experience. Sadly, the exhibition only last till September 30, 2021. Go and see it if you are in the neighborhood! Cool Nous sommes passé ce matin, quel beau bâtiment, tellement dommage que tout soit gâché par cette pseudo exposition, il est navrant de voir de telles choses dans presque tous les beaux lieux actuellement, absolument aucun intérêt. Une belle étape sur la route du retour de vacances. Tulles est chargé d'histoire et vaut vraiment la peine qu'on n'y fasse halte. Not much to it, but it's free and worth a look if you have been to see the lovely cathedral next door.
