An hour in nature, discovering a very artisanal and almost forgotten job (I guess mostly because of the attached prices of the final product). The visited guide starts every hours during the summer season, Cannot book in advance. I arrived 15 minute in advance and I was informed that next session is full and I need to wait 45 minutes for the next next session. The tour is about how the tile is being made. The view is amazing but that’s all. Not a lot of walking, but lots of talking. My bad that I didn’t check more about this place in advance. The walk between the 100m high cliffs of the slate is very impressive and one you don't often get to experience. In the tour you learn the history of the place and see a live demo how the large blocks are still cut into thin slates by hand. If your french isn't great they have an information leaflet in English. The is quite spectacular but nature has taken it over which blurs the edges. Friendly staff. Worth the 10 euros. Tours take just under the hour. What a surprising place. Absolutely loved it. Best place around to visit. This old is very beautiful to visit. Because of some geological events a long time ago, this is very exceptional in form. Thin but very high and long rockwalls, deep pits filled with water... It really feels like walking in some canyon in the middle of nature instead of a next to a town. The visits are on fixed hours with a guide and you should check the opening hours before going. In high season it has longer opening hours and more opening days. After visiting the you get an elaborate explanation and demonstration about how they worked the stones. I think we had a French guide and I dont know if they do have English speaking guides, but because the visit isn't very long and the views are impressive I would still suggest the visit. The is in a small village, but on 5 minutes driving there is an very beautiful old town wich is adorable to stroll true. Fascinating tour of a former slate mine and how the craft of creating slate tiles etc still carries on. Poignant video of times past but wonderful to see a young group of passionate craftsmen keeping the trade alive. It's an interesting place but tours are only in French, an English paper guide is available but the French presentation lasts hours so for someone not speaking French, it would be better to have the option to walk through, as it is unfortunately very boring to be a non French speaker on the tour. Absolutely fantastic visit. Very informative and well explained, also for kids (in French only!) with live demonstrations. Keeping craftsmanship alive, we loved it!
