The ruins of the castle of the Counts of Vendôme overlook the old town on top of a hill. You enter the castle grounds through the 17th century Beauce Gate which opens onto a beautiful garden. The ruins of the former Saint Georges collegiate can be found here as well. Such an amazing place, steeped in history. Great view of the city. Public toilet would have been good. Wish we had had more time to explore further. Car parking limited and not recommended for campervans as space for maneuvering was very limited. Still worth a visit. Our host said it was ruins bit in fact, very more of this : the best view on the city of Vendôme, adorable gardens, old stones with a bit of history.. and a royal path to take the Compostelle walk The château is going to be renovated, and the work in progress doesn't bother the visitors. The view above Vendôme is spectacular! And it's free entrance. Can see all of Vendome from up here. Beautiful Nice park, and if you follow the final trail up to the ruins, you can dwell among some of the remains. Excellent view on the Abbaye de la Trinité from the park!
