It's worth the walk up the hill. Beautiful and really old and beautiful setup inside. The walk-up is about 20 minutes with shops along the way. Great views from the top. Very beautiful and small old town that is now somewhat rundown. Needs maintenance and more shops. But the old roads and stones stayed intact. This is a hidden gem. Not too many tourists. A few restaurants inside An extraordinarily under rated old town ! And you might think the atop is not worth the ticket but it is , we had had lunch just outside and didn't even plan on visiting here! it turned out to be one of our Italy trip highlights. And guess who painted this towns and the bridge infront, Claude Monet, just to stand in a painting is a feeling in itself! Time has stood still A magnificent and very unique historical place next to the river with a peaceful little border town. Old with lots of history. Just a short drive from the coast. We rented a scooter and found some parking by the base of the castle. Lots of hallways inside all the way up to the top of the castle. The hallways are lined with cozy stores selling all sorts of souvenirs. Entrance to the at the very top costs 6 EUR pr. Person, and they do accept credit cards. Standards are surprisingly good, with a recent display of Claude Monet. Info posters around the castle, though not all of them in English. Toilets inside. Really explore and you can find the real Dark Ages. Lovely place to visit on a nice day. Forget it if you have mobility difficulties (a long climb, lots of stairs, absolutely no provision for wheelchairs, pushchairs, crutches etc.) or if it is raining. Basically ruins of a castle, lovingly and expensively restored. Well, not fully restored; more stabilized. So lots of reinforcements, imaginative steelwork, safe steps, viewing platforms and so on; most of the walls and almost all the ceilings are still missing. The usual Mediterranean mix of information panels, rusty steel sheets where information panels should be, working and broken audio-visual displays, that sort of thing. No attempt to show what it might have been like in its heyday, just naked stone walls. Still, a fascinating place to tramp around for an hour or so, two at most unless you are truly interested in the place's history in detail. Very limited parking in the village. Probably tricky in high season. The was so pretty and this was always sticking out above the buildings in the village. The view was a bit disappointing but still super pretty. The building almost looked medieval but it was nice! It's a very cute place in Italy, if ever in the Cote d'Azur area you should definitely consider visiting this place. There are a few great restaurants near this location, with good food and great wines 🍷 . A true fairytale wedding venue in Italy.
