Visiting this place was so amazing experience, even if it is pretty hardly approachable by public transport. At the beginning, really friendly staff provided me with a tour which I was then able to listen via my phone in several languages (dutch, english, german, and frys). All information, about the history, clean energy, how and why the dam was built, what are the protection against flooding, and what are the plans how to increase the use of this dam in the future + many interactive ways how to explore flora and fauna of the area, were here for an acquiring a new knowledge. The atmosphere on the top of the roof (where solar panels providing all the energy for the Wadden centre were placed) was incredible. Inside is also the restaurant and this place is definitely worth for your visit. Well worth a stop to visit. Very good value and a fascinating experience. Helpful staff. Recommended! A neat place to visit to check out one of the Netherlands' longest dikes. Small fee to enter the center, small fee for bathrooms, restaurant inside. Had an amazing time at the Afsluitdijk Wadden Center. Learned how the dike was built, why it was needed, and how it’s being made future-proof. The exhibits were fascinating, and the scenic spots overlooking the Waddenzee made it even more special. A perfect place to understand how the Netherlands was shaped into what it is today. Serene experience!! History of the Afsluitdijk is explained very nicely with loads of interesting and interactive elements to keep kids engaged. A VR videos also is interesting and the Panorama view from top is real refreshing!!! And indeed helpful staff with a super cozy restaurant to munch on !!! Evening stroll is super romantic!!! Beautiful views of road built on dam… A nice pit stop on the way to Giethoorn from Amsterdam… Nice cafe with breakfast and beverages options.. they allow you to go on roof top for experiencing scenic views… extremely windy place Stumbled across the Wadden Center when my son-in-law went to do some drone photography of the wind farm in the IJsselmeer - Lake IJssel. We found an open parking area and walked through a passage in the dike to the lake side to launch the drone. By accident we found we had parked close to the Wadden Center. I had no idea what the oddly, to me, decorated structure was so off we went to explore. The lady who greeted us quickly switched to English when she realized that we were illiterates when it came to speaking Dutch. She told us the history of the Center and a bit about about the dike. There are fascinating exhibits on the second floor of the building and you can get out to the roof for a fantastic view of the lake and the windmills. We stopped in the cafe to grab something to eat before our drive back to South Holland. The food was very good. I had a hearty lentil soup that warmed me body and soul. You'll bb convinced that, "God created the sea, but the Dutch created the Netherlands" if you tour the Wadden Center. Highly recommended! We visited the Afsluitdijk Wadden Center and absolutely loved it! This is one of the most interactive museums we’ve ever been to. The story of floods, dikes, migrating wildlife, and windmills is presented in a truly engaging way. It’s fascinating for adults and perfectly adapted for children as well. On top of that, the staff are very kind and welcoming, and the restaurant offers delicious food with a beautiful view.
