Imperial Palace, Gelnhausen

Gelnhausen, Germany Historical landmark

Top-rated.online cuts through the clutter, highlighting only the reviews that are most helpful, earn the most likes, or come from the most active contributors. It's a castle ruin, but it still needs to be on your must see places while in Gelnhausen. Don't miss the museum and then walk around the castle on the outside as there's several nice views you'd miss seeing if you simply go inside and back to your car or bike!!! One of the most important secular Romanesque monuments in Germany, with a rare collection of intricate capitals and carved patterns. It was the site of one Reichstag in 1180 when Emperor Barbarossa stripped the traitor Henry the Lion of his titles and property. It's an interesting spot steeped in history Really interesting place that has a lot of history and information. It was quite quiet when I was there and the gardens were absolutely beautiful with the autumn colours. Only partially visitable due to renovation July 2023. Reach the place on 4:15pm. Can’t go in, told by the museum staff was closed. How true ?? as it shall be close at 5pm. Absolutely fascinating. Would have liked to have a more detailed history. A must visit when in Gelnhausen. Entry fee of €3 for adults and €2 for students. Ticket includes the museum and castle area. You can get a good view of the city and surrounding areas from the tower. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable.
