Castro is the Venetian's built fortress above todays old town Naxos. The three nave Cathedral sits on a small square, pretty simple in design, yet beautiful. Altar is very nice but there're no frescoes on the walls. Pay attention on wealthy families inscriptions and coat of arms on the floor. It's there but If nobody told you you wouldn't know it. This former Venetian has been integrated into the fabric of the city so much that you can no longer tell it apart from private dwellings. The itself isn't very special. If you've seen castles before this one will rank low on your list. It is free to enter though and there is a swanky bar at the very top that provides a nice view of the town and harbor. When you hear the Venetian of Naxos, you do expect to see a on the top of the hill, but it is actually the whole area within the walls. You get to walk in the old narrow alleys, and you will be able to see and visit the Roman Catholic Cathedral if it is open. The archaeological museum and see Naxos from above. Orher monuments in the walls are Sanudo Tower, the church of St Anthony of Padua, Fransiscan Monastery of St Anthony, the Ursiline school, the Convent of Ursulines. Also, look out for the old walls that were built with the ruins of the old Acropolis that were in Naxos. Is not suitable for pushchairs as there are so many steps or wheelchair users. Also, look out for the old Venetian houses and signs on the buildings and above the doors. I think the was great ! We did a tour and were shown various chruches and the rooms otherwise we'd probably not notice or go in by ourselves. The complex is quite large, not overwhelming but it's all connected so eventually you end up at the bazar and it all seems as one. Very perfect and I loved coming down from it thru these little alleys andf little shops and fruit stands. Very nice ! Would definitely recommend. cute, worth a visit if you have about an hour, but hard to navigate even with a map (attached). better just walk around and get the impression. not very maintained, nor explained. give a check to the Archaeological Museum, and climb up to the roof top of the cafe to see the view. Cute. Worth a look, but not worth a special detour. Nice old church at the top. Recommend as a place just to wander the maze of streets. A must do in Naxos! Visiting the Venetian of Naxos is only a small part of Chora, I recommend on visiting the and then just getting lost in the small little alleyways on the way back to the waterfront. There is so much to see and it is very picturesque. It’s also best going during siesta time, as there was no one around and it was very peaceful. In my humble opinion, this does not read as your traditional castle. It may be on the original grounds, but it has been taken over by residences and businesses. We looked for an actual castle, and were asked by other visitors if we knew where it was. The church and nearby museum are in the grounds but if there were no signs advertising it one would never know there had ever been a there. Shame on trip advisor for recommending so highly. Lovely view from the cafe at the top. Not really a as such, but there was a very interesting free small museum with lots of ancient pottery. Amazing place the waitress very lovable video sharing very caring. I had you recommend this to everybody. You got it. Please visit it one time and your life time. You will never regret it.
