An awkward stone structure that wasn't straightened up to stand or it was designed to just lay there.... the foot is already as big as the height of an adult, so it must be utterly heavy. Another mystery on the island was not sure of the purpose nor origin, but it became a tourist visiting site, lol Very beautiful but in a way very sad place. They abandoned the sculpture and it's been lying there for 2600 years. Traditional (very homestyle) Greek cooking. Apollonas sits high above the bay/cove with welcoming atmosphere. Have a try at Kokoretsi...a twist of nose to tale cuisine, but the Greeks nail it. The pork very good spice mix to complement the meat. Clean and friendly place. A really beautiful town/village with a beautiful beach. It is also not too crowded by tourists, so you can explore and enjoy the streets in peace. Not too far away is an unfinished marble sculpture of Dionysus, God of vegetation, wine, inebriation and ecstatic dance. A little further up, you also have a good of the Aegean Sea. It's a nice day trip. 10 minutes. Interesting posted information. Best time for pictures, of the statue, is in the morning. In the shadows in the pm. Surrounding area is breathtaking so it's worth the drive Cool place to visit. Parking for 2 cars right at the bottom of the stairs. Very short walk, maybe 30 seconds to giant stone carving man. Free to visit. I was able to learn about the history and was a very interesting place to visit. It was part of the day tour that I booked. The was also great. It made me more curious about the Greek mythology. Quaint village lots of marble Quite the drive up from Naxos town (about an hour one way) to see this cool abandoned statue. Amazing scenic drive along the sea side and fun windy roads going up and down hill. Short 1 minute walk up some stairs to see the with a great of the coastal village as well. Fantastic views and energy, both the very site where the ancients sourced marble to create sculpture, and the seaside. Dramatic yet appeasing, a unique combination. Impressive stonework and trail to the top for a great of the village. Beautiful area! No fees. Very impressive. Although I wouldn’t do that a 1h trip again only to see it. Rarest places that kept me in an unrested state. Free acces, few steps to climb. Oook, devi secondo me essere appassionato e avere una cultura per questo tipo di attrazioni. Altrimenti rischi come me di aspettarti chissà cosa. Just right off the road. Make sure to take the steps to the top to get a great of the whole We drove up to Apollonas Kouros from our hotel near Agios Georgios Beach. It took approx one hour to drive. It was interesting to see the unfinished statue, but not sure it was worth the trip just to see it. However, we did go to Apollonas Beach for a swim and quick lunch. The beach was wonderful and made the drive so worth it. While we were eating lunch, a small Fiat car rolled down the boat ramp, floated a short distance, then sunk. Luckily, no one was in the car. Reminder to set the parking brake! Easy to get to. There is a small pull off area where we parked and then we followed the trail. You also get a nice view. Easy, interesting quick stop. Plus, it’s free! We rented a quad in Chora and road them all round the island. Really cool traveling over the mountains with the clouds drifting by us then down to Kouros of Apollan. I love history and you wonder how they did when they did. You can see how they chiseled this piece out by the chisel marks left on the mountain from where it was chiseled from. Amazing. Recommend to anyone going that way even if your not into it. Don't need to buy tickets just short walk 50-75 meters from where you park. We were there Sept 26, 2025 Very large marble statue, placed my average female sized self next to it for scale. Pretty cool! Short staircase to get there from the road. Probably worth 5 minutes if you’re passing. It’s a pretty impressive size. No tickets needed, it’s literally 50m up a path by the roadside.
