A few years ago I visited this park as part of my motorcycle tour of western Europe. I had already visited numerous war cemeteries in Italy, France, Belgium and Holland. This memorial park was suggested to me by a hotel owner. I was not sure what to expect but was very pleased, not only with the recognition of the Canadian soldiers who had died freeing The Netherlands, but also the look to a better future by recognizing the Right of the Children. I walked part of the trail and upon returning to my bike I was met by three local residents. They had seen the maple leaf flag sticker on my windshield. They wanted to shake my hand and tell me stories about what their families suffered and the impact on the arrival of Canadian soldiers. I was very moved that they wanted to thank me as a Canadian for something that occurred so many years ago.
