Dezember 1975, ist ein bedeutendes Zentrum für Eissport in der Region. Ursprünglich für 3.000 Zuschauer konzipiert, wurde es 1981 überdacht und in den Folgejahren erweitert, sodass es heute 4.555 Plätze bietet, davon 1.476 Sitzplätze.  Die Architektur des Stadions beeindruckt durch eine von Professor Julius Natterer entworfene Holz-Dachkonstruktion, die 1982 ausgezeichnet wurde. Obwohl das Stadion überdacht ist, bleibt es auf zwei Seiten offen, was ihm einen besonderen Charakter verleiht.  In den Wintermonaten dient das Stadion als Heimstätte des EHC Bayreuth und wird für Eishockey, Eisstockschießen, Eiskunstlauf und Speedskating genutzt. Für die Öffentlichkeit gibt es regelmäßige Eislaufzeiten, die auf der Website der Stadt Bayreuth einsehbar sind.  In den Sommermonaten steht die Halle für Streethockey und Rollkunstlauf zur Verfügung.  Im Oktober 2023 wurde das Stadion aufgrund eines Ammoniaklecks in der Eisbereitungsanlage vorübergehend geschlossen. Die Reparaturarbeiten gestalteten sich umfangreicher als zunächst angenommen, da 40 korrodierte Rohre ausgetauscht werden mussten. Ein genauer Termin für die Wiedereröffnung konnte damals nicht genannt werden.  Insgesamt ist das Kunsteisstadion Bayreuth ein traditionsreicher und vielseitiger Veranstaltungsort, der sowohl Sportlern als auch Zuschauern ein besonderes Erlebnis bietet.
