It's ok. Fun enough for a day out. It's very quiet! We were the only family visiting. It's fun to explore and see, we learned lots about how they make salt! Great park to play outside. Staff friendly and helpful. They had a activity sheet as a little extra for them. Lovely little The looks well looked after. Staff were lovely and informative. I personally wasnt blown away with excitement, but it's got some sections. For the price it's good value and a great way to spend a couple of hours. Worth going if you haven't been before. Visited here for free as part of Heritage Open Days. I had last been here on a primary school trip 44 years previously! I remember back then they sold bottles of Brine for 20p and after watching the guide boil the Brine off to leave behind we all thought it was witchcraft & all rushed to buy bottles of Brine! Fast forward to 2025 & the site has changed a little, they now have a purpose built visitors centre with & toilets. Disabled lifts are available to all floors, though the old wooden floors can be quite uneven in places. We went on a guided tour around the site which was interesting. Extremely visit. The tour route has information boards to tell the story of the works which was constructed in 1894. The pan houses, brine tank, manager's office, smithy, stove houses, Red Lion Inn and pump house are all accessible. There's also an excellent and gift as well as an outdoor children's play area. A really site for a visit. Very fortunate to join a tour with a guide who provided additional information. The buildings and exhibits gave a real feel for the tough life the workers must have experienced. Modern reception and cafe, with a basic, but tasty range of snacks. Worth a visit. I've been wanting to go to the mine for some time and it didn't disappoint. I went on a Wednesday and started with a lovely coffee in the café before starting my walk round. Lifts to all floors for disabled visitors so they can see it all. Well worth a and a play for the in the grounds. I walked through the gate onto the canal towpath when I finished and went for a little walk to see the boats. We LOVED our day out here! Me and my partner are both in our 20s and came alone, so we were able to take our time reading the exhibit information and listening to the audio histories provided by local people. I feel we learnt so much about an industry we really didn't know existed, and had a wonderful time being able to look around. The exhibits do a great job of bringing the buildings alive as well as showing you the different jobs and processes involved. I cannot recommend a day out more and especially at such a reasonable price! Would be good for a rainy day too as almost entirely based indoors! A fabulous with a lot of stuff for the to do as well. An place to take junior school age children all you need to know about in Northwich, (which = a place associated with production i.e. Middlewhich, Nantwich, Droitwich, Netherwich, and Shirleywich). Whilst walking around Neumann's Flash near Northwich I branched off the set route to the Lion Works Museum. I've driven past here hundreds of times when working around the but never taken the time to check it out. My mistake. The is located in the remains of the original works with amazing tableaux, displays and recordings that explain the history and processes of mining and processing the for which this of Cheshire is famous. And it really does get across what a hard, hot, sweaty and unpleasant job it was. Nice and souvenir on site all contribute towards a pleasant and visit. Highly recommended. Went to see the band The Breath, they were incredible. The event was in the education space upstairs, so it was perfect for an intimate gig. I'll be looking forward to more bands and entertainment there in the future. The management in the location was second to none. Congratulations team! Well done! This is a fantastic place for a small, local museum. It was far more that I had imagined! It is set in a location, with a very cute garden to attract butterflies - that is for both adults and children. There is also small but fun children's play outside. There is a comfortable and reasonably priced café, with a proper coffee machine, alongside a small gift shop. The itself it more extensive than I had anticipated. The presence of the original industrial equipment gives a true insight into the former works in the Northwich and Cheshire area! The is for people of all ages. Will be back We visited last weekend with our grandson who turn 4 in December. There was one lady in reception who also manned the cafe. We saw no other staff. We went round the exhibits, some were not working, others had 'out of use' signs on. Although the information was informative, it was way over the head of a four year old. The exhibits were more suitable for school children, and with a guide not for families visiting on their own. Great that covers the history of both the works itself and an insight into the history of Cheshire's extraction industry. The restoration of the buildings was sympathetically done and the has a really atmosphere. There's a cafe, a with related things and a good selection of books. They have quite a good selection of events and kids' workshops, too. Definitely worth a visit. Fascinating place, to pay a as I have not been in the since 1959 when I cycled through aged 14 in 1959! Lovely setting and history. Great interest to me as a Geologist familiar with gypsum but less so salt. An & to Lion works, plenty of free car parking space & lovely visitor centre. The selling usual type gifts, I did wonder if a range of other directly linked products would be lucrative for the shop. I loved the interactive video instalments however was disappointed a number of the recorded information links were not working or had been removed for some reason, maybe reinstate these & make accessible & inclusive for Deaf & Blind visitors too. I liked the example of the house/office in the grounds, hopefully when funds permit further dressing internally would also engage visitors experience. The butterfly garden & the seating for better days are a lovely addition. Well worth both a local & out of & I hope to read of future developments giving an insight into this surprising British Industry of days past. Wonderful local museum.
