My recent visit to Evergreen Bistro in Ålesund left me with mixed feelings. The service, which I'd describe as typical "polish service," was prompt yet lacked a customer-oriented approach. The staff seemed less service-minded than I would have preferred, and while the food delivery was quick, I was taken aback by the extra cost for dining inside and the expectation for guests to clear their plates. When it came to the price, I found it to be on the higher side, especially considering the portion sizes. Even the bottled beer was pricier than I had anticipated. As for the food, I opted for the Chili Con Carne, which was somewhat disappointing. The dish was dry, leading me to suspect it might have been reheated in a microwave. It was served with an excessive amount of rice, dominating more than half of the plate, and the portion was smaller than expected. The flavor was decent, but it didn’t make up for the other shortcomings. On a more positive note, the bistro’s interior provided a pleasant atmosphere. The dark theme, complemented by green plants, created a nice and cozy setting. Both the dining area and the washroom were very clean and well-maintained, which I appreciated. In conclusion, while Evergreen Bistro boasts a charming interior and cleanliness, it falls short in and value for money, with the food quality leaving room for improvement. We stopped here during a cruise port stop. After walking the city for some time, we decided to have lunch at Evergreens Bistro and warm up a bit before walking back to our ship. Surprisingly we found mexican food and it was delicious. I had beef bowl, it was super healthy and delicious. The vibe of restaurant is cozy and relaxing. We were drawn here because they had options (based on online reviews), but they were taken off the menu in store. They still made us the rice bowl. It tasted OK - a bit boring for $219kr (lots of rice, a scoop of chilli, guac that tasted like it came from a bag and some veggies). My husband and I both has stomach aches after eating it. Probably wouldn't go back. Oh my. I miss this place. Will definitely come back to try even more dishes next time Im in Ålesund. Such good. If you do not eat meat, fish nor seafood, and want to get something different than pizza or burger, then I would recommend this bistro as it has good choice of dishes. Fresh delicious bowls :) Food is mediocre. Furnishings are alright. Bigger issue is an average looking burger took 1 hour to deliver. Seems like their ordering system is terrible because they can’t see past transactions for some reason and thought that we never ordered a burger. Also the staff communicates poorly because one of us who specified they’re dairy-free ended up with a plate of cheesy fries. Eventually the burger came out but by then the rest of us were done eating for maybe half an hour. Delay really ruined our daily plans. There’s better restaurants in this same shopping area really no need to stop at this unremarkable place. We went here because they had some options on the online menu. Was disappointed that they were no longer on the menu in-person. They did make us the "vegetarian" bowl, but just rang it up as the chicken with no chicken. That being said - quite pricey for what it was. I found it a bit bland for 210kr. My partner and I had the same thing and both had pretty bad stomach aches about 90 mins after eating. This place is so nice! I tried the vegeterian rice and the nachos which were delicious, the ingredients were fresh and great!! The staff is also very nice, the girl at the front was charming and they gifted us a small hot chocolate which was also super tasty!!!! 100% recommended. Food was very alright. Portions were on the smaller side considering the higher prices as well as the extra charge for dining in. The furnishing and vibe of the restaurant as a whole is nice but the customer was actually quite awful! We came in as a group of 4 and 3 of us got our foods semi-quickly (as quick as an European restaurant can do) but one of us took over 45 minutes to receive a plain cheeseburger. The chef also came to our table and accused us of scamming them which was very interesting. We also informed them that our friend has an allergy to dairy and sesame, and told the waitress to not put any cheese or sesame seeds on his order. While they remembered the sesame seed part, it seems their minds blanked when they slathered his dirty fries in a pile of melted cheese.
