When I asked to see the manager I was informed "he is not here" I asked to see the assistant manager and was informed "he is busy" I have never felt more discriminated in my life. When asked why I could not go in the I was informed "wonen only" and no justification why. This in my opinion is unacceptable with out a valid reason. I went to Hitchin the same day and had no problem going into the pool. There were other dads with there there to. So I don't really understand what Stevenage justification was for not letting us use the pool. Will not be returning to Stevenage centre as I felt discriminated against for being male and wanting to take my daughter swimming. Son enjoys his lessons here, but the place is looking shabbier by the day. Prices have gone up, booking is trickier and haven't seen any improvements with the takeover. Reception staff and swim teachers are friendly though. The centre has recently (few months ago) been taken over by Everyone Active. Some improvements have been made, but some areas have declined - such as replacement of old showers, but new showers either don't work or are freezing cold and it has been like this for weeks. Changing cubicles are dirty, moldy and the whole area is not very pleasant. Still a missing toilet door in the ladies. The large toilet near the is so dirty, with old sink/facilities etc. Needs a lot of upgrading. That said some of the swim teachers are really good. This is the closest near me and it's fine. You need to book and check availability before going there because on several occasions we were turned down entrance as places get filled up quickly, alas it's still sometimes feeling busy while swimming. Overall a good experience with all usual facilities. My son's experience at this facility took a nosedive after Everyone Active took over. The blatant greed is evident with overcrowded sessions – 8 kids crammed into a mere 4 square meters. To make matters worse, the teacher seems more engrossed in their tablet than in actually teaching the kids to swim. The chilly water only adds to the discomfort, creating an overall disappointing and neglectful environment for young learners.Let’a not talk about cold water at the showers which was not fixed for 6 months now. No longer use this pool. Totally disappointed! Just come back from with my 4 year old at Stevenage. I’d like to say a massive thank you to life guard Danny. My daughter has autism and hypermobility, Danny saw my daughter wasn’t keen on the water so he gave some toys to play with which instantly changed her mood leading to her becoming a lot more confident in the pool, managed to stay 35 mins with no more fuss. You are a saint and made the experience so comfortable for her with such a small gesture. At the reception we were told we can’t go to the main due to the numbers (in the was maybe 7 people)we can only use one and the middle. When we come by the pools we wasn’t allowed to go in for 5 minutes because the session would start in 5 minutes and is only for an hour. The goggles available there are pricey and I overpaid for mine as they displayed one price and overcharged me, they didn’t refund it back to me, the supposedly retail manager’s way of dealing with it was shocking, absolutely ridiculous. Went to take my 1 and a half year old grand daughter for a swim at 10.30 in the morning to be told that the is only open from 3.00 till 4.00. But I could take her in the deep end of the main at 1 and a half years old! What is the point of that. These little ones don’t go to school so need something during the day. I really struggle to understand this. Was not told at reception about giving details over for car parking, before arrival I called and enquired about parking on site, I was told parking was free and nothing else. 2 years later I received a £150 parking fine.
