Truly this place is a hidden gem. You have to be very careful if you come by car (plenty parking places) if you come by bicycle it is very easy. The view of the El Puente el Fuerte restaurant and everything around it is more than beautiful. The decoration is super nice, quiet, they have a nice boat and the service is very good. Well preserved fort along the Dutch Waterline. Nice space to spend a couple of hours, visiting the fort and its exhibitions (paid) or just having a coffee outside. Nearby easy parking. I've been here twice. Once for lunch, which was surprisingly pleasant. Only complaint is turnips in my dish were undercooked. My Sunday "surprise meal" was flavorless . I was served risotto with potatoes 🤢 A meal of two starches after a plate of 🍞 . It's hard to believe there wasn't something with a bit of color in the kitchen. This is just a very restaurant. Friendly staff _ informal.. we had chefs dinner 2 courses - warning u get a lot of very high quality food !! Place for big eaters ! The quality is just excellent .. the garden is also nice - tables are placed - lots of privacy. Would for sure come back here - !! Oh and dogs are allowed we saw :-) . We had in portions - salmon on black kroepoek- asperge soup- cod- slices of roasted beef - and a lot more - and it was all superb.. We were here when we were celebrating a friend's birthday. It's a nice place. The staff is friendly. It's interesting to explore the fort and its surroundings. The cuisine is excellent, and individual preferences are taken into account. We especially enjoyed the delicate protein dessert with berries. The quest was a bit long, but we generally enjoyed our stay. We visited the restaurant twice during our stay in Leerdam. The first time we had drinks and light snacks after visiting the fort. We had a very pleasant time with friendly service, and as we watched generously sized meat and cheese trays, and other items being delivered to other tables we decided to come back. We were glad we did. The room is simply, but elegantly arrayed, with nice music playing. The food service began with a small loaf of warm tasty bread served with butter, olive oil and pesto. I had a tasty steak and my wife had an equally well prepared fish and shrimp dish. We had a Dame Blanche for dessert. Our server was engaging and served us very nicely. We had a great time and would happily return when we are next in the area. Nice lunch beautiful place😜 filet americain was just great - the old cheese wrap very and tasty - white pinot grigio. service Absolutely fabulous in every way! I've lived in the area for 15 years with my Dutch wife and never visited Fort Asperen for a lunch visit until now and am thrilled I did, mainly because of the outstanding wait staff and food. Our waiter, Max, has a personality and charm to knock your socks off--positive, upbeat, cheerful, informative (almost a sommelier, who helped sell me on one of their expensive wines when I asked questions!). It was important to him to also include his colleagues (Ava-Kee--also a cheerful waiter!--and Sven, the bartender) when I told him I wanted to give him a review. Clearly a TEAM, working together to make the atmosphere and dining experience something not to forget. When my American children in their 50's and my grandson, age 25, come to visit me, I can hardly wait to share the place with them. They will LOVE it!
