Took a cab from Pinhao because I didn't want to drink and drive. 11 EUR per direction. Make sure you take the number of the taxi driver as they dont seem to have numbers of taxi station to call for you on your way back. Arrived at 12:45, right when the employees were breaking for lunch. Doesnt appear on the website, but then again, this is Portugal. For 20 EUR got a self guided and a walk in the vineyards, plus 3 drinks of tastings for two. The lasted 30 minutes with the very bored voice of some British actor telling you everything you never wanted to know about producing port. And I do mean everything. For enthusiasts only. Also bring your own headphones as the single use ones they provide you have a comically short cord. The walk in the vineyard was a romantic though, and a good photo op. Wine was good, Fonesca has some top quality inside its barrels. Couldnt resist and bought two bottles. All in all a recommened experience. We went on a beautiful cold rainy day in March, it added to the ambiance and all the stone terraced hills. An amazing area that I was told I need to visit in the Fall sometime. I'll be back for sure! Awesome views, great wine. Surprisingly barely any visitors. The walk along the vineyard is short and on level, but in 39C is difficult - plan to do it early in the morning. The guide speaks in perfect, but completely humorless English. Together with heat it is an interesting experience. This is the kind of I live for. The setting of the Quinta is spectacular overlooking the rivers and vineyards. The place was very quiet and we could sit peacefully and enjoy the wines and views. We had the connoisseur and a private lunch. The quality of the wines is excellent. The food was simple but very tasty. The service by Celia and Emerson was very good. We learned about the wines and enjoyed a beautiful day. They ship to America so don’t be shy trying. We came for a and also took the tour. Not knowing much about this was a very good introduction. The room is nice and the young man running the room was knowledgeable, friendly and engaging. Definitely a fan of the Tawny Port. Unfortunately, they do not offer food at the room but he recommended a very nice tapas place in Pinhao- Cardanho Presuntos. Très bel endroit, une quiétude y règne!!! To Go or Not To Go: Go! Caveat: this review only applies to the self guided that they allow you to do through their vineyard. We took a driver from Quinta de Pacheca where we were staying- it took about twenty minutes. I had read some reviews that were quite discouraging of coming here due to the “dangerous” ride over. The ride is your typical turns and narrow roads of the area so do not let that stop you from heading over. Once we reached the Quinta at about 3pm we waited in line a few minutes to get the guide they hand you (other people were also patiently waiting for service). I do think that they are understaffed. The young man helping us was trying his best but was overwhelmed trying to hand out guides and then explain the process and setting/breaking down tables for tastings. We followed the guide it’s only about 25 minutes long. It’s an easy walk the only steep part is a small hill at the beginning. The guide is quite dry but informative. The best part is that you actually get to walk amongst the vineyards on the side of a mountain overlooking the river!!! Absolutely priceless. Repeat: Absolutely priceless!!! Definitely get yourself here and have some of the best 25 minutes you’ll ever have. Arrived one hour before closing just for a quick to buy and porto, not to visit. Only two costumers were there finishing so they were not sure to have us and finaly didn't. They do as they want. Not very professional. Lovely afternoon trip from Porto. No crowds—personal and explanation of the various grapes and processes to produce the various ports. Followed by relaxed of several lovely white and reds. We choose the outdoor patio to enjoy the occasional November sun. A cheese board accompanied the tawny with lunch later in the dining room. Simple yet elegant. White followed by a red with duck and rice casserole. Found the entire relaxed and enriching. Learned a lot about and enjoyed the setting. Had a hard time deciding on gifts to bring home! We had hoped for an authentic, laid back after so many bustling group tours. This checked all out boxes! Absolutely lovely place. Spectacular view, welcoming staff and fabulous port. €10 for (3 ports) and a self guided 30 minute tour. Highly recommend!! Wonderful time beautiful contrary and people. delicious, be sure to pick up a bottle. Probably my favorite visit of our Douro River Valley tour!
